At the response given by Tarsen, Tizzy glowed inside. No cat had ever treated her with respect, or in a friendly way. This was the last thing she expected from a new cat, a welcoming, and her tail curled in happiness at the thought. Tarsen seemed kind, and friendly. He was certainly more mannerful than some of the SandClan cats, she realized. Maybe living out here wouldn't be so bad. "It's a pleasure to meet you too!" she purred. Suddenly, her eyes glowed with curiosity. "Have you always lived here?" she wondered aloud, tilting her tiny head, "I've never been out here. Before this I lived in clan territory, though I wasn't a clan cat, myself. Mostly, I just watched." she didn't want to tell him that she had never spoken to a cat before. It might change things--make him think she was even weirder than she looked, or perhaps, he might begin speaking slower, as if she was dense. Instead, she just waited for a response, huge, black eyes shining.

"I lived at two-leg place, in a cage, soon someone took me away, but I ran." Tarsen paused, amber eyes alight with curiousity. "You've been beyond the No-Lands?" He glanced longingly at the SnowClan border. "I've always wondered what was there, apart from the clans." He smiled at Tizzy, he already considered her a friend, though they had barely met. The tom just felt that she was someone he could trust, and if he didn't trust someone, he would be suspicious.

Tizzy glowed inside from the trust that seemed to almost radiate off of Tarsen's pelt. And was he asking her a question, wondering in earnest what was out there? This was too good to be true! "Well, it's mostly just clans." She mewed carefully, "There are four clans, SnowClan, they live on the mountain, SandClan, who live on the freezing beach by the sea--that's wher I hid out--PineClan in an area with some pine trees, and JaggedClan, who live on a cliff with lots of sharp rocks. There's also a cave where cats go to speak with their anscestors in the sky, and a tree where all the cats come for a gathering every full moon." She felt proud to know so much about the clans, and realized that she probably could pass as one. As far as she knew, she still had the SandClan scent of sea and salt, and she was used to living in the cold and slurping up clam and shellfish innards for food. She could even fish! And these skills--using them out here, she realized, could be useful too. She sat down on a smooth stone, comfortable around Tarsen. He was so natrual--so easy to talk to. And he was genuinley curious about her and where she came from. I hope we can be friends. she thought wistfully.

Tarsen's eyes sparkled with energy, a thirst for knowledge and... admiration. "Wow..." The tom thought aloud. "That must be amazing, living with a clan." He glanced at Tizzy. "But it's great out here as well. Free, able to do anything, meet anyone." Suddenly, Tarsen felt his heart swell with happiness, he hadn't met many loners, the ones he did meet weren't always friendly, but Tizzy was different, the tortoise shell felt like he had known her for years.

Tizzy looked down at her paws, thinking of what would never have been. The words: "That must be amazing, living with a clan." rang in her head. Yes, Tizzy thought wistfully, it must be. Glancing up at Tarsen, she twitched her ears. "Well see...I didn't exactly live with the clan. It's more like I lived on the territory. I was sort of a...well, sometimes I felt like a spy." At that moment, her neck fur bristled in embarassment. Why did she tell him that? Now he'd never be interested in being friends with the ugly, spying she-cat who had stolen food and resources from SandClan territory her whole life. She hung her head in shame and regret at the thought, trying to think of a distraction from the topic at hand. She suddenly shot her head up, and, trying to look optimistic, mewed, "So uh, Tarsen, want to go out hunting? I'm sort of hungry. What about you?"

Tarsen nodded, he had often glanced over at SnowClan, but had never really thought of looking at them most of his time, so, he simply nodded in agreement. The tom crouched towards the ground, belly fur tickling the ground. He raised his sleek head slightly, sniffing for prey.

Tizzy was discouraged at Tarsen's brief nod, knowing she had said the wrong thing, but pushed it out of her mind as she too, crouched down and began scenting for prey. Suddenly, she scented something--probably mouse, she thought, judging from the brief time she had spent in PineClan, and sprang from the ground, pinning down the creature and giving it a swift bite to the neck. Timidly, she padded up to Tarsen. She had never shared her food with any cat before, and hoped he would accept--the mouse was unusually large and fat for this area and time of year. "Want to share?" she mewed hopefully through a mouthfull of mouse fur.

Tarsen smiled and supressed a purr. "Of course." He mewed cheerfully, shifting out of his crouch in one fluid movement of his tortoiseshell fur. Life was looking up, a friend, at least company, and one he could trust.

Apparently, offering to share was the right move. Tizzy purred slightly as her new friend crouched down and the two cats began eating together. Taking a small bite and swallowing, a question formed in her mind. "So..you seem interested in the clans. Any particular reason?" she mewed through a small bite of mouse. She was not blind to the obvious signs of curiousity that seemed to be coming from Tarsen, especially when he gazed over into SnowClan territory.

Tarsen paused a second, swallowing his small chunk of mouse and breaking the companiable silence. "When I was at two-leg place, an elderly she-cat, Smog, told me about cats living free, and the life of a loner." He took miniscule bite, gulped, and continued. "I wasn't sure why, but I prefered the idea of a loner, and..." He trailed of a second. "I want to find out what's beyond it all." He glance at Tizzy, hoping she wouldn't think him a mouse brain, telling him that nothing was over he sea at the border of SandClan.

Tizzy could hardly swallow another bite of mouse, her mouth was so dry, her eyes, widened. "B-beyond the sea?" she mewed. She realized she had never thought of this before. All her life spent in SandClan, all the times she had gazed into the distance across those icy, salty waters, it had never occurred to her to think what was beyond that. But there had to be something. Birds came, swooping in from the skies by the sea. They came during the day, and went back at night, gulls diving in and out of SandClan territory, returning to the ocean every sundown. And where did they go when they returned to sea? They had to go somewhere. Her eyes shone with intense admiration for the cat sitting next to her. "I don't know but...now that you mention it, I'd love to find out." She took a last measly bite of mouse before licking her lips with a rough, pink tongue.

Tarsen smiled, and nodded, that was exactly wanted to find out. "Maybe there are other cats there, maybe much more than there is here." His relief that Tizzy supported his idea was miles better than the prospect that he had been worrying over the last few minutes ago. He stood up, feeling much better-tempered know that he had had a meal, not that he was often bad-tempered.

Tizzy stood up as well, shaking out her fur. She glanced up at the sky, noticing looming dark clouds overhead. A storm, she figured. Her whiskers twitched in irritation. She hated storms. A lone snowflake fluttered down from the sky and landed squarley on her nose. At this, she purred with amusement, flicking it off with her unusually long tail. Suddenly, she spoke. "I bet the cats living there are good swimmers. Maybe there are other creatures too--creatures we haven't even heard of!" she purred at the thought, and her eyes glistened with excitement. "It would be so fun to go travel on the ocean! I wish we could but...well how would we do it? We can't swim, who knows how far it goes." Excitement swelled up in her. All the possibilities! This new view of the sea had opened up her eyes to so many things, and she felt free and hopeful. There was more to life than clans versus rogues, more than hunting to protect a group of cats every day. There was so much more out there, and she felt like she could leap into the sky and fly away with the knowledge. And just to think, she thought, gazing at Tarsen with excited, glittering black eyes, he brought all this on.

Tarsen nodded excitedly. "Ever found anything that floated in SandClan territory?" He asked flicking his tail backwards and forwards behind him. "I agree with you about other creatures, for all we know, the ocean could be vast, larger than even Alaska!" He was getting a little arried away... or was he? Tarsen suppresed a purr, imagining that he could skim the waves, spray specking his face, inky blue waters below him. ((Driftwood!))

"You're right!" Tizzy responded. Tarsen's excitement about the topic was almost catching. "I mean...that stuff has to come from somewhere! And with so much stuff showing up onshore all the time, it'd make sense if it was bigger than Alaska! It's so flat, yet we can't see all the way across this! Oh this is so exciting!" Suddenly, she knew what she had to do--what they had to do. "Tarsen" she started, excitement gorwing, "We have to travel across the ocean! We have to find out what's out there, and we have to see it for ourselves! I'm not quite sure how we'll do it yet, but we're going to go." her eyes shone excitedly. "That is...if you'll come." She had gotten so excited about the prospect of them traveling the sea together, she had nearly forgotten if he felt the same way.
