Something has changed witin me...Something is not the same....I'm through with playing by the rules of someone elses game.....
This day was turning out to be horribly disappointing.
Back resting against the cool stone of the cave his tribe called home, Twig was alone...and seriously sulking. It wasn't that he was terribly upset about something-just, well...there was nothing exciting and new to do. What was the use of chasing rabbits, if he only, usally, went head over paws anyways as they dashed into a bush. It wasn't like he needed to catch and eat it. And fooling around with his mates had all but lost their glamour to him. It was so unfair- why couldn't things happen when he wanted them to.
He shifted, his claws raking the ground on the bottom of the cave floor with a dry clack. Finding a more comfortable spot, he rested he head down on them, letting all of his warm breath out in a clearly depressed and pouting snort. Too late for second guessing.....Too late to go back to sleep....It's time to trust my instincts, close my eyes....and leap.....

"Oh...darned it!" Crested half-swore under her breath. She had just done three, count them, three things wrong. The first was attempting to move a gnarled root (she had been out in the forest, and gathered plants on the way) from the front to the back of her mouth to the front. She had swallowed it instead. While gagging, this is the second, she had dropped all the other items in her her mouth. And the third, the worst in action, she had stepped and ruined the darned plants! The Head Elder attempted to growl, but couldn't succeed while coincidingly smacking her lips from the bitter, spicy taste of the root. And she had spent all morning on those! If she wanted to make it back for a late lunch...if she could make it back.
She needed help. Crested made that decision in a split second. Scowling, her silver-tinted muzzle now still, at the useless herbs on the Cave entrance. Shaking her cinnamon head one final time in frustration, she entered the centerpiece of the bear camp. It took one snort of her old noise to latch on to the one scent hanging around- Twig. 'Perfect," she thought. 'Young, energetic help!' Shambling away from the tunnel that lead to her own Den, she located the cub in less then a minute. "Twig!" she said happily, hoping this would get him interested. "I got a job for you..." she added, trailing off as she waited for the cub's response.

Bluestar
Velvet Frost Bjorn lay with her head on her hands just at the cave entrance, she was finishing the remmains of a small, stringy hare. The sow wrinkled her black nose slightly as she finished standing up. Her creamy white flank shimmered, the shade of moon bleached snow. Her white claws tapped on the cool stone floor. Her electric blue eyes flashed as she made her way into the cold, angular face hardening as she trecked into the territory, musces flexing smoothly as she went.
With this life I give you nobility and certainty and faith. Use it well as you lead your clan in the ways of StarClan and the warrior code.

Summer Cloud raked her claws across the cold rock floor. She opened her mouth slowly and wide to let out a tired groan. As she managed to stand up, she twitched her ears. She had just awoken from a great sleep, full of wonderful dreams due to the movement of her cub. It was almost time now, and day soon. She walked out of the nursery and through the section towards the elders, where she would head out to the main clearing. Until she heard what sounded like choking or struggle. She stood slightly on her hind legs and glanced around, twitching her nose to take in the air.
She got back on four legs and walked over to Crested Hawk, whom seemed to be choking on something. She was calling, Twig. "Crested Hawk, are you alright?" She asked as she made her way over. She looked over at Twig and curled her lips into a smile.
Crested seemed to be the one choking, but how was she going to help the Head Elder? She finally reached her and looked at her slowly, thinking of a plan. Maybe she could pull it out of her mouth, if it's not down her throat all the way.

Crested was about to give the cub a hard jab in the stomach with her paw when, Twig's saving grace, Summer entered. Scenting her first, the elderly sow turned her cinnamon head towards the Cob-mother. One eye; not the useless cataract-ed one, which stared off in it's own odd direction; focused on the misty-furred sow, and the Head Elder couldn't help but grin. A replacement to Twig's helping paws, or an addition. "Crested Hawk, are you alright?" The bear was surprised from the question, but she didn't show it. Blinking once, all the time she needed to think up a good response, she opened her silvery muzzle to do that. "Well, if you mean mentally, I think I'm alright. I haven't gone mad yet, have to go against the rumors and all. But, I am a bit upset, because I ruined the herbs I had gathered outside the Cave. But if you meant physically, then it's just the same old same old bear things. My tail has been driving me nuts through, too many joints in one small area that are too able to get konked up. And I've been going bald there too, so..." At this point, Crested stopped, realizing she should have stopped when she mentioned dropping the herbs. Like any bear wanted to know her old tail was going patchy. But, no need to leave poor Summer there, needed to continue. Reluctantly, she opened her muzzle again. "And to add to the mental question, I'm, getting frustrated because little Twig here won't respond to my request for help. You see, I need to get more herbs, and I want to be back for a late lunch at the latest, so..." She trailed off again (the same word, to boot), and waited for Summer's response. Hopefully, the misty sow would take the bait, and do some extravagant 'I ll help you!'...thing.

Summer glanced over at Twig. She shook her head and turned to Crested, who was talking about twig, then squashing her herbs, and than talking about her patchy tail. Summer rolled her eyes and looked at the Elder sow. "Well, I would help, but I don't know what most of these herbs look like, and I could have my cub any day now, so..." she trailed off, wondering what to say next.
"Twig? Could you help Crested?" she asked softly, touching him a few times with her paw. She sighed, what was she supposed to do? She could help, but she had no clue how. She was basically worthless. She opened her maw, and breathed in teh air. Closing her eyes she turned around once, before sitting on the clod floor. She felt tried and wanted to take another nap.

He then paced proudly, puffing out his chest and made his way to the head elder, glancing behind him to make sure Lilly was still there. She had accepted him! She loved him back! His heart swelled as he dipped his broad head to crested and rumbled.
"I've...I've found an Alpha Female," he gestured with a flick of his ears toward Lilly then, turning his gaze toward her. Everything about her is perfect, he thought, before turning back to Crested and trying to read her expression.
He suddenly realized that he may be interrupting something, and ducked his head in apologies. "I'm sorry--" he stammered, suddenly lost for words, "Were you...I mean, were you already talking--" He had been so lost in thought about Lilly that he hadn't even bothered to check if the head elder was busy. Ducking his head again, he added, "If you're busy, I can come back later...." here, his words trailed off, and he decided he should do nothing but wait for a response.

Crested nodded in the 'Oh I SEE' way as Summer listed off the reasons, or, until she reached the cub one. Of course! The sow would've slapped herself with her paw if the world had suddenly reduced in population to only her. (But it didn't, so she didn't) Only a blind bear could've missed that buldge in the Cub-mother's stomach!
'Then again, I am half-blind...Oh, no excuses!' she thought musingly at first, but it ended with more self-frustration. Keeping her jaw in place with a brief stuggle, she gave a more understanding, and less sarcastic nod. "I'm sorry there, forgot about the pinecone in the fire...er, your cub." Crested paused, embarressed when she realized how old, and rather obsolete, the saying was.
She opened her muzzle to try again, or add on, when Summer went over to Twig. After a few light jabs with her paw, and light words, the misty-furred sow obviously gave up. Crested shook her head, but then, with her good and medicinal-trained eye, she noticed how tired Summer was. She didn't need to even give an order, for the said bear sat down herself. Good, but now what to do? She would need herbs, especially if that cub came...wha? Crested winced, because of "mental problems", as her ears finally let in the steady drone behind her. Bear drone. Black Lightning Bjorn drone.
And according to her nose...he'd been there for about a minute now. Not even bothering to ask if Lilly had nailed him in the eye with a pebble again, she turned around...and saw the two sitting together. As a couple. Mind racing, backwards to be precise, she found the key words amidst the jumble in her head.
"I've...I've found an Alpha Female." The old sow blinked once, twice, three times before she finally decided the young Alpha wasn't delusional, as well as her. Knowing she had probably looked no smarter then a squirrel the past while, she made her expression turn serious as she examined first Lightning (briefly) and Lilly (very un-briefly). After an exmanation that could've hired her in an airport, she turned back to the Alpha Male.
"You...truly want the sow who nailed you in the eye, and almost blinded you, five times, to be your Alpha Female; the Tribe's Alpha Female?"

"Oh, don't worry, he won't be coming for hopefully, a few more days." she said slowly. "My legs just ache from having this big bundle." she spoke slowly as her Alpha Male, Lightning appeared.
Her ears twitched as he told Crested that he found and Alpha Female. She opened her eyes wide and stood up slowly. "Well, that's great. Are you sure you've made the right choice?" she spoke slowly and opened her eyes even wider, "She hit you in the eye? Five times? Wow." was all she could say. Her stomach rumbled as the pang of hunger hit her.
Her eyes clouded with pain as her insides were being kicked. "Ouch." she murmured softly.

♫ - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - >> Lightning's fur bristled as the head elder seemed to examine him, then his future mate, with burning curiosity and skepticism. She blinked several times, and he fidgeted, wondering what was going through her head. At first he had been confident that Crested would be as overjoyed about him at the current situation. Apparently, Lightning realized, he was wrong.
He gulped as the wise old bear parted her maw, speaking slowly.
"You...truly want the sow who nailed you in the eye, and almost blinded you, five times, to be your Alpha Female; the Tribe's Alpha Female?"
Here, Lightning could have roared with laughter, but he fought the urge down until it was nothing but a pesky tickle in his throat. The way Crested had put it was rather amusing. It was true--up until this day, Lilly had despised him. But...didn't the whole tribe know of his love for Lilly?
"Yes ma'am," was his firm, confident reply, "I really want the bear who nailed me five times in the eye to be my Alpha female...don't you see? I love her. And...she loves me too," he then threw the bear beside him a loving glance before turning it back to Crested.
He then dipped his head in respect, and tensed, hoping for the best. Would Crested accept their choice? Or would she decide that another bear would be better for the tribe? Lightning tingled in anxiety. Surely, the wise old sow wouldn't do such a thing to him, or Lilly?

As Lightning held in his laughter, Crested cocked her cinnamon head curiously, before replying to Velvet Frost. "Oh yes, and maybe more. My old head can't remember anything th--" Oh, Lightning was talking again. giving a quick nod to the cub-mother, she turned back to the young Alpha male. Half of his words went in one ear and out the other, but not because she was being rude. She was listening for the words that really mattered. "And...she loves me too"
HAH!There they were! The Head Elder's face was now of joy, eyes bright and twinkling, lips turned up in a smile. "Stop there!" she thundered, voice joyful and rather, well, hyper. For extra emphasis, she slapped her two front paws today, almost in a clap. "You can stop there, that's all I need. I already know Lilly is a fantastic hunter, and has made a very good Beta. And I know you love her. And now I know she loves you! Third piece of a three piece puzzle!" Her voice echoed through the Cave, undoubtedly drawing the attention of anyone inside. "Whenever you wish the ceremony to be, the ceremony will be, Black Lightning Bjorn, Alpha of the Bjorn tribe!"

Apparently, he had said the right thing, because the wise old bear was cackling in joy, speaking of how wonderful Lilly was. Lightning nodded along enthusiastically as she spoke.
Giving his love a quick glance, Lightning glowed in pride as Crested continued her enthusiastic rant.
"Whenever you wish the ceremony to be, the ceremony will be, Black Lightning Bjorn, Alpha of the Bjorn tribe!" Were her excited words, and Lighning dipped his head in great gratitude toward his head elder.
"Thank ya, crested!" he rumbled delightedly, "And, ehm," here he paused, neck fur standing on end, "Sorry for interruptin' ya," here, he gave a final deep dip of the head before turning back to Lilly.
"This is great!" he added, before turning to face Crested once more, "Ah, we'll get t'ya on the ceremony thing!" He called. Turning back to Lilly, his lips--or, what would be lips, if bears had lips--curved up into a sort of bear smile, and he began speaking to Lilly.
"So, Lill'," he rumbled, "When'd you like the ceremony, eh?" His broad furry tail twitched and he sat, heaving his hindquarters down onto the frozen earth that was his home territory.

Summer curved her well, lips into a smile and stood weakly to her paws. She heaved as sigh as she watched the Alpha of her tribe go off to Lilli. "Young love, I remember that." she said with a sigh and looked away from the group of bears. She didn't really want to go back into the cave, she wanted to get some fresh air. "Crested, do ya' think it would be alright if I go wondering around?" she asked the Head Elder slowly.
Her eyes gleamed with hope that the Head Elder would say yes, she didn't want to stay in there any longer. She wanted to go down to the river, by where the cats lived. She liked them, but never really met the cats. It wasn't like she would run into them anyways or give birth out there.

Crested couldn't help but grin at the sight of Lightning and Lily. Cute barely scratched the surface of what could be used to describe them as a couple. They could relate by being opposites, a nice little factor. Shaking her head, old memories rushing into her equally aged mind, hence body, she turned away...just in time for Summer's question to reach her more directly, a good lucky chance. "Crested, do ya' think it would be alright if I go wondering around?"
The head elder gave the mother-to-be a cursory look over. No spasms, which could be contractions. Fine by her. "Go ahead Summer, it'll be good for you to get fresh air. Keep you healthy, and the cub will be." she said, nodding as if to reinforce what she had just gruffed. "Go have fun, catch a fish, take a nap...no problem by me!"
