º Seaturtle padded tentativley into the cave. Inside, it was cold and humid. When she breathed, hot air spun before her in a visible cloud. Since when had the mossy cave gotten so cold?! Well, nevermind that, she decided, wrapping her long, sand-colored tail around her paws. She couldn't wait for Skyfeather to show up--she wanted to ask her old friend everything about PineClan! But first she'd have to speak to her starry anscestors.
The SandClan medicine cat shuffled on the ground. The moss on which she was sitting was cold and wet, and it was making her very uncomfortable, and so, she stood. shaking out her pelt a bit to loosen the scraps of moss and beads of condensation that clung to her fur. She'd never seen weather this bad in the Mossy Cave!
This had better not be a bad sign! The clans were in enough trouble already, what with the new PineClan leader, the fued between SnowClan and JaggedClan, and the whole problem of Ocean Sea--and just the fact that they hadn't attacked yet was making Seaturtle very nervous indeed--she had a feeling they hadn't moved on...

Skyfeather felt the now-familiar sensation of being at peace with the world as her paws took her into the belly of the Mossy Cave. There really was nothing like it for getting over a stressful day. The feeling of being watched settled over her like snow would if she slept outside in ice-freeze, but it was neither as unwelcome or cold as that prospect. Skyfeather's mood was only increased at the sight of her SandClan friend already being present. The calico she-cat padded up to the other medicine cat eagerly, a slight purr tickling her throat. "Seaturtle!" She meowed, nodding to her fellow herb-nerd, "How's the prey running in SandClan?"
Whilst waiting for the SandClan medicine cat to reply, Skyfeather threw a glance around the cave, surveying her surroundings. So far, it was just the two of them here. She was looking forward to seeing the other medicine cats, all of them she-cats, incidentally. There was Mythdream whom she hadn't seen for a while - SnowClan must have been busy - and then Bluefrost from JaggedClan who, like herself, had had an early promotion to medicine cat. Maybe she would have an apprentice by now. Skyfeather realised with a jolt that she should probably be looking out for one too. She was reassured by the fact that Seaturtle was not ahead of her in that aspect but made a mental note to spend more time with the apprentices and kits. She had to find a suitable successor in case something did happen to her.

º "Seaturtle!" "Hi-a, Sky-a!" Seaturtle mewed, standing to greet her friend with a flick of the tail on the ear and a warm purr. "How's the prey running in SandClan?" "It's alright," Seaturtle replied, but suddenly, a sea of questions flooded her mind. "What's up with PineClan? How come you missed the gathering?! Ebonystar's body need to be tagged and dumped in the ol' forest?"
Realizing how insensitive this must sound, Seaturtle added, "Sorry about that, by the way. Didja ever find out what caused the croakin'? Dustwater didn't give a real clear response--in fact, she wasn't real clear about anything!" She was suddenly filled with suspicion. How many times had cats asked if she was leader or when she was made deputy? Seaturtle couldn't count. But the amount of times she had given a reply--well, that was easy: none.
"The clans all loved her by the way," she mewed, smirking and remembering the cold responses the tabby she-cat had received.

Skyfeather's peace didn't last long, unfortunately, as all too soon the expected bombardment of questions began.
"What's up with PineClan? How come you missed the gathering?! Ebonystar's body need to be tagged and dumped in the ol' forest?"
Skyfeather twitched an ear uncomfortably, and gave a half shrug. "Pretty much, yeah." She meowed in response, unwilling to recall her panicked search in the territory for signs from their ancestors. Maybe if she was lucky, she'd get one of those signs tonight! Then she could return to her Clan and make everything the way it should be.
"Sorry about that, by the way. Didja ever find out what caused the croakin'? Dustwater didn't give a real clear response--in fact, she wasn't real clear about anything!"
Another tricky question. What was she supposed to say? That a disease killed him? That he drowned in a pool of his own blood without a wound of origin? That StarClan were somehow displeased with PineClan and so mysteriously struck him down? She didn't want to make her Clan look weak, because although she trusted Seaturtle she knew that the SandClan medicine cat probably wouldn't lie if asked directly what was with PineClan. Then Wavestar might decide to attack. "Well, to be honest, we're not so sure. It seemed to be an isolated, um, tragedy though." Skyfeather replied truthfully but not very satisfyingly. That would be the end of the interrogation, right? I mean what else was there to -
"The clans all loved her by the way,"
Abandoning all pretenses of being calm, Skyfeather promptly flopped down into a slouchy sitting position, her tail drooping. It seemed everyone hated her choice! Why, why, why? had she been so hasty. Dustwater's suggestion had seemed like a good idea because they needed to attend the Gathering but the tabby queen wasn't the type of cat to give up the lead straight after and return to the leadership debate. Skyfeather still thought Dustwater could lead PineClan better than Jaycall - as the queen had more experience and cunning - but she hadn't even thought about the other senior warriors. What if Dustwater was going to drag PineClan down into disgrace or a terrible battle of some sort?
"It's all my fault, Seaturtle! I thought she'd make a good leader so I went along with her and now StarClan knows what'll happen!" The calico she-cat wailed to her friend. This was a great start to the meeting.

º Seaturtle's grey-blue eyes widened in great concern as she watched her friend drop to a slump. Oh why, why had she chosen her words so hastily? Why had she been so blunt? Why couldn't she have chosen delicate words for a delicate situation?!
"It's all my fault, Seaturtle! I thought she'd make a good leader so I went along with her and now StarClan knows what'll happen!"
Seaturtle, realizing what she had said that had caused such a reaction in her friend, winced and felt great sympathy for the brown-and-white she-cat. She tried so hard to to the best she could for her clan--and now, not only was her own clan upset by her choice, the other clans were, too.
"Oh, I'm so sorry, Skyfeather," she mewed sadly, taking a step forward to plop down next to her friend, and vowing to choose her words more carefully this time around as to not put the medicine cat in any unneeded distress. "Listen, Sky, it's not your fault! You were just, y'know, doing what you thought was best for the clan! If they thought so lowly of the idea in the first place, they shouldn't have listened t'you! It's their fault ultimately." She gave her friend a reassuring lick on the ear.
"Don't worry. If anything happens because of Dustwater, I'll rip her lungs out! And hey--we're here now, right? This is big! Maybe StarClan will give you a sign! They've just gotta!"
Realizing with a start what she'd just been calling the tabby queen, she shook he head. "Sorry. I guess I shoulda' been calling her Duststar, huh?"

The wind ruffled her fur. Fernpaw looked around and shuffled her paws. How late was she? Closing her eyes she padded inside the misty cave and air escaped her mouth. "Hello." she mewed as she spotted Seaturtle and Skyfeather. Slowly nodding she sighed. "H-how does th-this start?" she mewed shakily as she looked down at the ground. Her fur stood on end and her eyes grew wide.
What if StarClan didn't except her? What if she was given bad prophecies? What if??? She closed her eyes and shook her head. She was going to be fine. Taking in a deep breath she glanced from the two she-cats before her. Were things really bad with SnowClan that the SnowClan meddie wouldn't show up? She felt bad about what happened, but stood by her clan. She knew what happened with PineClan and not much happened in SandClan, except for Marblepaw having kits. What else was going on with the clans?

º The two she-cat's conversation was interrupted by a high-pitched, timid mew coming from the mouth of the cave that made Seaturtle jump. Holy bajeezers, what was that?! Then, Fernpaw entered the cave, and Seaturtle relaxed. It was just a new, nervous medicine cat apprentice--or rather, the new nervous medicine cat apprentice, Fernpaw. She remembered her first time at the mossy ca--wait a second, that was just last moon...
"H-how does th-this start?"
Twitching her ears in welcome, she mewed, "Well, first the other cats have to get here...SnowClan seems to be right on time, as usual...but then you just shove your nose in that patch of moss over there and ka-SHOOM, you're in StarClan! Don't be nervous, I was too, the first time, but it's really neat. You'll like it."
She examined the little she-cat. She seemed nervous, but like the medicine cat type. Not as muscular or threatening, smelled of herbs, had a little soft edge to her--well, more like a soft core. Like a "Twinkie" (whatever those were). But still.

Skyfeather lifted her head, ears pricking slightly at Seaturtle's words. Of course they would give her a sign, she was being silly! StarClan weren't about to abandon her! "You're right." She meowed, with more strength, bringing herself back to her paws and tossing a tight 'smile' to her friend, "And she's still Dustwater, for now."
Then a soft, timid voice floated down from the entrance to the cave, making her turn curiously. The new cat smelt of herbs and had found the cave so she must be a medicine cat. She smelt of JaggedClan, but as far as Skyfeather knew, JaggedClan's medicine cat was Bluefrost. Something must have happened to her, and the calico she-cat wasn't about to ask in case it brought bad memories to the event. "Seaturtle's right, you've got nothing to worry about. Especially if you know a cat in StarClan." Skyfeather agreed, bending down slightly to touch noses with the apprentice in greeting. It wasn't long since she had been in this little she-cat's position and she wanted to make her feel at home. After all, medicine cats didn't have to worry about Clan boundaries as much - there was no reason why they couldn't be friends.

She nodded as Seaturtle started to speak. Her fur fluffed up a bit as Skyfeather touched noses with hers. Giving her tail a soft twitch she let out a small purr. She wondered how things were doing back at camp. She would have to take care of Silentsong a bit. She looked tired. Crispwind would need his usual check. If any messages were revealed in her dream she'd have to tell Wildstar right away, right?
"So, we talk now?" her mew was soft and calm. She gave her chest fur a few swift and quick licks before looking back up with pale yellow eyes. Her heart pounded softly against her chest and she breathed, her breath showing in the dim light. Curling her tail around her paws neatly, she spoke again. "So, how are things in PineClan and SandClan? Silentsong had kits, I delivered them. We've also found foxes on our territory. Oh! And Nightshade became deputy." she finished her short conversation opener with a twitch of her ears and a raise of her left front paw. Whiskers twitching she turned her head to look around at the clearing she would call her 'second' home.

l ll Skyfeather flicked an amused glance at Seaturtle as the young apprentice took the role usually held by leaders at a Gathering. She was obviously trying to follow the 'script' of medicine cat meetings very hard. Too bad there wasn't really one. Still, the cat's news was impressive. Skyfeather wasn't particularly interested in the foxes, or the fact hat Nightshade was deputy (although it was nice to be updated, as she'd missed the Gathering) but it delivering kits was quite something. Skyfeather herself hadn't done that, although she wasn't really going to throw that information out into the open. "Delivering kits, eh? Well done!" She praised with an impressed flick of her ears, "You'll make a great medicine cat!"
The splotched she-cat carefully avoided giving any news in return. Things were so up in the air with PineClan at the moment that any news she gave would probably be outdated by the time she got back.
Where was Mythdream anyway? It was odd that she should be late. Perhaps things were holding her up in the Clan. If the small she-cat didn't arrive soon, they'd have to start without her. "Have you seen Mythdream on your way here?" Skyfeather inquired of the apprentice whose name she would really have to ask Seaturtle later on. Their territories were next to each other and the two Clans were probably the friendliest out of all of them. Skyfeather remembered the medicine cats of SnowClan and JaggedClan arriving together quite a bit too, when she was an apprentice. If anyone would know, it would probably be JaggedClan's medicine cat.

Walking in your dreams... The sound of rapid footsteps filled the cave. Soon the tiny cat appeared into view, breathless and wide-eyed. "I'm so sorry I'm late. We had a bit of commotion, lots of injuries, a kittypet incedent. Much trouble back at camp. Plus, I have an apprentice, but his ceremony is being held once I get back. Yeah, lots happening."
She took a large breath before sitting down. "Where's Bluefrost?" The only Jaggedclan cat she could sense was the young apprentice in front of her. "Are you her apprentice?" Then a thought stuck her. If Bluefrost was...gone, then she was the oldest Medicine Cat! Woo, the OLDEST medicine cat.
"You think we should start?" Aren't I evil?

l ll "Mythdream! It's great to see you again - we were getting worried." Skyfeather replied happily, waving her tail in greeting. A kittypet incident, lots of injuries and a new apprentice? Hm. talk about busy. It almost made PineClan's problems seem small. But she didn't want to think about that now. She just wanted to focus on meeting their ancestors again and getting their guidance. Then everything would be fine.
"Yes, we'd better start." The she-cat agreed, casting a worried look at the the part of the sky she could see through the mouth of the cave. The half-moon wasn't actually visible to her, but she knew it wouldn't stay up forever. Soon the dawn scents would begin to drift in. Giving her ruffled chest fur a few quick licks, the young medicine cat padded past her SandClan friend and JaggedClan's new medicine cat apprentice. Once close enough, she lowered herself to the ground and shuffled nearer to the moss which seemed to nearly be radiating a soft, see-it-out-of-the-corner-of-your-eye sort of glow of it's own. It was probably just her imagination though. The she-cat took a breath and pushed her dainty pink nose into the cool, damp moss. Soon the welcome shill swept through her body and her breathing regulated. With this sleep would surely come the answers from her starry guardians.

Fernpaw nodded, "It was really scary, but Silentsong did most of the work." she mewed with a small laugh. She nearly jumped out of her skin when Mythdream arrived. "Bluefrost just disappeared. We don't know where she went, I was her apprentice." Fernpaw sighed and watched as Skyfeather padded up to some moss and pressed her nose to it. The weirdest thing was, she fell right to sleep!
Standing up slowly on shaky legs, Fernpaw padded forward and found her own clump of moss. She pressed her little brown and pink nose into the moss. A chill ran down her spine and her fur spiked up. Closing her eyes she waited as sleep washed over her. What was going to happen in her dream from StarClan?

Walking in your dreams... Mythdream nodded towards Fernpaw. If, that is, that WAS her name. It's not like she would know. She just looked like a Fernpaw. Meh, whatever. "What a shame. I guess that means you'll have to teach yourself all about the herbs?" Then Skyfeather started the meeting by pressing her muzzle against the moss. Ah, just like old times.
Stepping up to the moss, she crouched down. But she didn't press her nose against it yet. What would Starclan tell her this time? Hopefully something about the kittypets, or maybe Phoenixpaw. Onyxpaw or Mothkit, too. Anything useful would help!
"Oh please, Starclan. Tell me what do do with them. I really don't know." With these final murmured words, she pushed her nose into the moss, the familar chill greeting her once more. Aren't I evil?
