Runningspirit's senses were overridden as he saw (from the corner of a baby-blue eye) Hailfrost enter the scene, and Luna kept talking and jumping around, playing with her squirrel. Then loud, some melancholy and others excited, started to blast from every corner of the Territory. The the little puppy before him started to howl as well, and then Needlegaze and Hailfrost were discussing something. Tuning in, it didn't take him long to get what it was about.
"What do you say?" "Take her back to camp as a prisoner?" "Take her back to camp? What would the others think?" "Though, she doesn't seem harmful, but those other dogs might."
Then Luna stopped prancing, and put her nose to the ground, and started to ruffle through a bush that was missing half it's leaves, and then drawing out a small shape... "Tribalpaw!" he thought the instant he recognized his clanmate's silhouette. Before the pale tortoiseshell even got a chance to command 'Down!' the PineClan apprentice was dropped, and the beagle continued babbling about helping, and being happy...
"We need to take her back to camp for sure," he meowed, a bit uncertain as the howling stretched on, and seemed to be coming closer to their clearing ever faster. "But we can't harm her. Look how young she is, the pup didn't even understand she killed the squirrel...if she even considered it her own!"
His tail was twitching, more nervous now. For once he wasn't confident in his decision, and Runningspirit knew his input would be shot down. Well, hopefully it wouldn't...

|| ♫- there's only music so that there's new ringtones... '' The agreement of both Runningspirit and Hailfrost was all Needlegaze needed to dart over to the little beagle's side, grasping her leg lightly with sharp teeth. He would have allowed his jaws to go deeper--but Runnignspirit had suggested not hurting the beagle, and internally, Needlegaze agreed, though he wasn't about to show it, and as usual, he kept his face hard and without a hint of any emotion whatsoever.
Once again angry at himself for picking a clanmate with equal intelligence to his to accompany him, Needlegaze began walking forward, Luna's leg still clutched lightly between his jaws. He indicated with his tail for some cat to take her other side, growling internally about the apprentices--he'd have to deal with them later!

Luna tried shaking her paw free. "Ouch, that hurts! Let me go!" she could lift up her paw a bit. "I can find my own way to your home, watch!" her nose hit the ground and her tail wagged behind her, thumping Hailfrost and Runningspirit slightly. She walked forward, with Needlegaze stuck on her leg. She kept walking forward, sniffing out more scents of cats. She stopped as teh scent grew closer. "Is this it?" she 'mewed' and looked over at the cat and back at the camp's entrance. She pulled herself toward it, her tail moved the air behind her, ruffling the fur of the cats.
+
Hailfrost shrunk down as Luna's tail hit his head, deciding he would do it, he padded up to Luna's other leg and clamped his jaws around it. Very lightly though, he had no intentions of harming the poor dog. He walked forward as she did and watched as she let them straight to the camp. "She's a good tracker." he mewed to the others, his voice muffled by the fur on her legs. his fur went uneven as the air wround him was whacked by the pup's tail. Letting out an inward groan he closed his eyes and lifted up his head.

It was true--the beagle pup was showing more and more promise as a clan member every moment! But surley, this would not be allowed! It would be a disgrace to PineClan, allowing some mangy mutts to dwell among them, living as clan cats! Hopefully, PineClan would decide to slay or banish thet pup and her supposed siblings, and be done with it!
Almost there. Needlegaze saw camp up ahead, and his pace quickened as he made his way quickly down to the entrance, Luna's leg still in his jaws.

A light snow fell. And down from the sky, descended a StarClan warrior. One of great power, and strength. Came upon an ebony tom.
"This forest was never yours," the hiss came from behind, and beside, and above and below.
The tom whipped around. "Wh-who are you?! Who's there?"
The tom proceeded to speak, "I told you to make her leader! You failed! Your time is up, Ebonystar!"
And a shriek ripped through the forest as the jaws of StarClan penetrated the skin of the dark tom. A thousand wails sang out then, withering away into nothing as the cat pulled his fangs from Ebonystar's neck. He looked up, meeting the eyes of those who came, blood dripping from his fangs for a few brief seconds, emotionless green eyes blazing.
He flickered.
And then he was gone.
On the forest floor Ebonystar lay. On a bed of pine needles. In a pool of blood. With not a wound from which it should spill. Nor the scent of a killer. Just a cold, hard body. And the last withering wail.
Then
silence.

ooc; ack.. i missed a lot. sorry, sox, if you were waiting on my reply!
ic;
Sliding to a sloppy halt in the powdery white snow, Wolfpaw was startled to find that he recognized his surroundings. A nondescript tree-stump here, and a huge, snow-dusted boulder there, these were landmarks he'd seen on his way out of camp--he couldn't be far now. And although deep inside, curiousity nagged at him to find out whom exactly that raccoon-tailed, snarling creature had been. But he opted for the safer route, and was just turning around to head back towards camp when a sharp voice cut through the air like a knife through butter, making him whirl around in surprise for the second time that day, his stomach turning as he made frantic eye-contact with a young she-cat.
She spoke, her words lofty and confident. "So you're the apprentice who snuck out." "Uh, yeah, I, uh, I guess I am," he replied weakly. She didn't look about to attack him but his heart was still racing from being startled by her sudden appearance. The sudden onslaught of barks and yowls from not far off didn't exactly do wonders for his nerves either, but as the she-cat spoke excitedly and turned to find the source of the hullabaloo, Wolfpaw supposed he had no choice but to follow and bounded after her, eager not to be left behind.
It was all he could do not to barrel into her when she stopped suddenly to introduce herself. He nodded, as if he had recognized "the whole raccoon thing", although in truth he couldn't quite recall if he'd seen Tribalpaw before. And then she had darted off again--Wolfpaw hadn't had a chance to introduce himself. "I'm, um, Wolfpaw," he called after her shrinking figure, giving his head a quick shake before bounding off to catch up with her.
He had caught up with Tribalpaw, when she abruptly sank behind a small fern. Following suit, Wolfpaw dropped into a crouch, slinking forward to join her. The fern was hardly enough to conceal them both, and wouldn't have if Wolfpaw had been as large as a normal 7-moon apprentice--luckily, he was skinny for his age. He had just enough time to make out the forms of a couple warriors dragging a larger creature with them--was that a dog, mewing with that horrid accent?!--before a shriek resounded through the forest, making his heart jump several feet for what must have been the third time that day. Sneaking out of camp was definitely not his sort of entertainment. Golden-orange eyes wide with fright, Wolfpaw nudged Tribalpaw with his nose, forgetting his manners as the scream echoed through his mind like a bad dream. "Did you hear that?" he whispered urgently, although she would have had to be deaf not to have heard a horrid cry like that.

Runningspirit watched silently as his clanmates rushed over to Luna, and, in one case, gently bit down on her fur and hoisted the pup off the pine-covered floor. It wasn't until Needlegaze and Hailfrost were leaving the Clearing that the tom realized he was supposed to help. Jumping to his paws, he was about to dash after the two...when he heard, from his length away, what seemed like murmuring.
Narrowing baby-blue eyes, the tortoiseshell padded a few feet over in the direction the cat (definitely cat, he realized) sounds were coming from. By the time he stopped, he recognized one as...Ebonystar? At this point, he hurried in the direction, but stopped cold when the shrieking began. Hundreds, thousands of wails surrounded his ears, and it was all he could do to press his head against a tree trunk.
...Until, what seemed like an eternity later, the awful noise stopped. And only to have another, possibly scarier, attack on his senses. He could smell blood.
It took him less then a minute to find the dark-furred body of his leader. The young warrior stood gaping, keeping his paws just out of the ever-spreading pool of blood. For the moment, it wasn't his leader's death that shocked him...he could swear a warrior covered in stars was just stepping away from the corpse.
And, with nothing else to do, he let out an ear-splitting yowl.
ooc; Is it okay I let Runningspirit find Ebonystar? If not, I'll just modify some posts. x3

She glanced around as she waited for Velvetkit and Hollowkit to emerge from the safety of the camp and into the vast forest. The little tabby gave the place a good look-around. There were thinly dispersed pine trees littering the ground, which was covered in a soft blanket of snow. The wind rustled the trees, and the whole area smelled even more of pine than the camp did! Agamakit padded up to a tree, tentatively placing her tiny paw against its bark. It felt cold and hard, and sported a thin layer of sap.
"Eew..." she murmured, pulling her paw away and sloshing it through the snow.
She turned back to the place where she had ducked out now, still waiting for her comrades. In the distance, she could hear the barking of dogs. How exciting! Opening her jaw like she sometimes saw warriors do, she tried to scent for the familiar tang of dog that she had picked up from Luna. Sure enough, she caught a very faint whiff of it for a split second--and then it was gone.
Turning her already short attention span back to the entrance, the little tabby plopped down as she waited for Velvetkit and Hollowkit to appear from the opening in the camp wall. <<- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - ♫

Adderpaw pushed ahead of his mentor into the territory, mouth wide to catch any trace of the scent of her brother. Unfortunately, even Needlegaze's stink was coated in dog-scent. He could just about pick up a whiff of Runningspirit, but it was faint and must have been from when he left camp on the hunting patrol. Not nearly enough to track him by. His dark green glance flickered to Jaycall before falling back to the forest floor in a vain search of paw marks. Jaycall would be able to scent her brother better than him probably, although he hated to admit it. After all, he could scent Skyfeather from a mile away...nearly.
"Where're we going?" He demanded of the she-cat, glittering emerald gaze fixed acutely on her. There weren't many cats he respected, but his mentor was one of them. She actually deserved it too and in his opinion deserved the currently vacant deputy-of-PineClan spot which Ebonystar refused to fill. Just like he refused to give Adderpaw his warrior name. The tom's eyes narrowed sub-consciously at the thought of his sister receiving her name before him. How humiliating was that? And, more importantly, whose fault was it?

Runningspirit wasted a long few minutes listening to...nothing. Unlike him to the extremes. But what was he supposed to do? Ebonystar had been leader for...for awhile. Not that long...but awhile. And now that same cat was lying at his paws, dead, limp, eyes open and lifeless. It was making his pale, tortoiseshell fur stand on end. But seriously, what to do? His sluggish brain tried to comprehend it all, and failed miserably until an idea hit him.
Get help!
And like a catalyst, that thought spurred the young warrior into action. Wheeling in the camp's direction on one paw, he sprang forward, paws a blur as he raced home. Carrying quite the terrible message.
---
Stepping on the thicker layer of pine needles that covered the outside of camp, Jaycall's first point of business was to ignore Needlegaze's meows. She succeeded, and the tom's mews soon became indeterminable mumbles in the background. And she had other things on the brain. Like if the pine scent was stronger then usual, judging by the way she couldn't smell Runningspirit or...
"Where're we going?"
The young she-cat flinched into reality at her apprentice's mew. Turning her own green eyes, but far less intense in color, towards Adderpaw, she came up with a meow split second.
"Well, we can follow the dog's scent back to the clearing. We might be able to pick up Runningspirit's th--!!" Jaycall's meow had grown more excited as it had gone on, realizing that the plan would work. At the end, it turned into a squeal as shape came through a line of bushes... And her brother slammed right into her.
The siblings matched. Not only were they tangled together, but they're eyes were wide and without understanding of what had just happened. Their jaws were slack. And then in one moment both were on their paws, one grinning in delight, the other...upset?
"Runningspirit!" Jaycall cried, a purr escaping at the end as bent over to rub her brother on the cheek. "Where were you? I was so nervous and Needlegaze was being a...What's wrong?" Her purring meow was done and over when she finally took in her brother's expression.
Her brother stared straight at her, but he obviously wasn't looking at her. Directly, anyway. He remained silent for what felt like forever to Jaycall (through ti was scarcely a minute) before he talked suddenly.
"Ebonystar is dead."

Adderpaw's instincts left him with unsheathed claws and bristling fur, in the attack position before he realized that the cat 'attacking' Jaycall was in face not an enemy at all. It was her brother, Runningspirit. Adderpaw re-sheathed his claws and sat down heavily. Hmph. There went all the fun and interest of his and his mentor's so-called desperate search for her brother. He'd found them before they found him.
The tom eyed the pale tortie with distaste. He began to express his annoyance in his customary ticked-off meow but was interrupted by something that brought all the interest back. "Well that was a waste of--" "Ebonystar is dead." What? "Are you sure?" Adderpaw yelped, before realizing how daft a question that was. Runningspirit would not have openly proclaimed their leader's death without considerable proof. the ginger apprentice collected his thoughts and came up with another, endlessly better, question. Two, actually. "How? Who did it?" He growled, already wanting revenge. Killing a Clan leader was dishonorable (nearly) all the time but without cause or battle? Some cats were going to pay. This would upset Clan life completely - Ebonystar din't even have a deputy! Adderpaw had never really liked Ebonystar but he was - or had been - a powerful leader.

Velvetkit arrived next to Agamakit, he sniffed the cool, fresh air eagerly, spearing a few pine needles on his claws and looking at them, giving a small sneeze as the scent swirled around him.
"Where are they?" He asked Agamakit, gazing curiously around for dogs, "I can't smell them..." He added, opening a small mouth as his liquid-light fur was tugged and toyed at by an icy wind.
"I can smell prey though!" He yowled, launching himself at a squirrel, who, consuquently, ran up a tall, snow-caked pine. Velvetkit, however, landed on the ground with a loud thump.

Jaycall stared at her brother, not comprehending the simple, terrifying, horrible three words he had just said. Ebonystar was dead? Sure, he had never been the nicest cat, and always a bit secluded...but he had been their leader for so many moons! What were they supposed to do? There wasn't even a deputy, there never had been...oh oh oh oh....
Eyes wide in panic, she leaned against Runningspirit, who's stocky body stood steady for her. She could hear Adderpaw growling questions, revenge strong in his voice. Yeah, who did this...
---
Runningspirit barely moved as his sister's light frame hit his body, a silent request for helping her stand given, giving him no choice but to hold her up...no problem, really. But he couldn't think still, mind a blur from going from slow to fast to slow once more. Shaking his head, trying to clear his thoughts. It worked long enough for him to process Adderpaw's questions and answer them.
"How? Who did it?"
Yikes, not the best questions...what was he supposed to say? The tom's ears flattened at the thought. Exactly, what was he supposed to say? A star-splattered warrior came down to kill their leader? He sighed, realizing only he would believe it. But, he could show them...His muzzle opened to let out a creaky meow.
"I'll...I-I'll show you his body."
The meow was blunt, and did not carry the usual exuberance his voice usually possessed. Nudging his sister lightly with her shoulder, to say they were going to walk, he was surprised to see her completely jump to her paws; face not matching the energetic 'get-to-your-paws'. Blinking once, the tortoiseshell started to lope, leading them back to their leader's death site, just a few minutes away.
~-~
The siblings entered the clearing soundlessly, Runningspirit entering first, eyes duller then before. Jaycall appeared just behind him, pawsteps heavy, and her eyes matching his: shocked and lifeless with the news of death. As both laid their gazes on the body, nearly swimming in the pool of blood, their reactions were terrifyingly different. Runningspirit flinched and turned away, not wanting to look at it any longer. Jaycall let out a screeching caterwaul, shocked and scared by the death in front of her. Red fur overlapped Ebonystar's black in her mind...and it was Redpaw, lying on the back of warriors, neck bent to an unnatural position. His eyes had open, showing shock and surprise, as if his life moment was not believing he was about to die. No no no no...

Agamakit looked up as Vevletkit entered the clearing where she sat, leaping to her paws and shaking chilly snow from the wispy fur on her hindquarters. "Where are they?" she heard him ask. This was followed by the statement that he couldn't smell them.
"Well I smell 'em, they stink! N' I hear 'em, too!" She paused as Velvetkit rammed into a tree while running after a squirrel, but her mind wasn't on the soft-furred tom, it was on the sounds of the forest. Ears pricked, body tense and alert, she waited, listening for the howls she'd heard before. It made little Agamakit feel like a real warrior!
She couldn't hear any more barks, though, so instead, she turned to face Velvetkit again. "Well they were howling earlier--is Hollowkit comin' or not?!" The little tom had seemed reluctant to accompany her on the quest to find the dogs, and Agamakit suspected that he may have changed his mind about coming at all. She gave her little tabby tail an impatient thump on the frozen ground.

Adderpaw followed the siblings with a mixture of dread and anticipation churning in his belly. He had not witnessed much blood and gore in his time, and no matter what he might boast, the recent battle with the sea-cats had been his worst fight so far. Adderpaw's mind halted, although is legs carried on, what had happened to the sea-cats anyway? As far as he'd been able to gather, they had gone away for a night of truce and never returned. A badger probably got them. Adderpaw suggested mentally, not quite believing it, even as he did. After all, there had been a lot of them. With any luck they'd just moved on.
The tom's train of thought chugged away swiftly as they reached the place where Ebonystar's bloody body lay. Runningspirit turned away but his mentor seemed to be having some sort of strange reaction. Perhaps she hadn't seen too much blood either. As far as the apprentice knew, the forest hadn't seen much gore in quite some time. However, looking at the dead form of his until-recent leader, that might be about to change.
Ebonystar was lying in the center of the clearing with glazed eyes, a pool of blood surrounding him. Adderpaw's nose wrinkled at the scent. What a lot of blood. Gingerly, the tom stepped forward, as close as he could without stepping in the crimson pool, to look at his leader. He was drawn by a strange sort of fascination. Who - or what - had killed him? And how? "There's no wound...no scratches, no bites. Nothing." He meowed to the warriors, looking up as he did, "But so much blood..." The tom then noticed that Jaycall still seemed frozen with horror and Runningspirit was doing nothing about it. That was strange seeing as normally the two siblings seemed to know what the other was about to do all the time. Perhaps the atmosphere of this place put them off. Adderpaw suppressed a growl. It certainly was an unpleasant scene.
"We should tell...PineClan." He suggested in his usual ordering-about way of suggesting things. he had been going to say Ebonystar, actually, and then gone on to name the deputy. Unfortunately neither could receive such news.
