Turning serious for a moment, Skypaw shot her brother a worried glance at Seapaw's question. It seemed as though they had missed quite a bit but she wasn't sure how much to tell another Clan. Fortunately, Adderpaw caught her look and answered for the pair of them instead, "Well, you SandClan cats might sit around idle all day but PineClan do actually move once in a moon." He meowed back regally, whiskers twitching slightly at the end and sort of ruining the effect.
Skypaw's eyes shimmered with amusement alongside her brother's as she relected that Adderpaw was being nicer than usual, especially to a cat from another Clan. He was actually joking! The little brown and white cat flicked him with her tail gently to show her thanks that he was being civil, even if it probably was only so that she could have a new friend. However, the tom didn't seem to be on the same wavelength as his sister, for once, and only spared her a quick, confused but kind glance befroe twitching an ear impatiently. She supposed he must want the Gathering to begin.

"I wasn't-" Silentwing began to Raindance, then fell silent as Wavestar stepped forwards, shifting round slightly and waiting respectfully. -*- Thornfire gazed up at the leaders, their eyes glowing, each showing entity upon entity, their strong forms framed by the blazing galaxy behind them. -*- Ashpaw twined his whole body round in one fluid movement, the lustre of the opalescent moon striking him speachless for a second, before wincing as his eye gave a bitter sting.

ooc; I'm getting slower everyday, to miss this. xD Well, time take Jaycall out of limbo...
bic;
Jaycall trotted joyfully into the clearing of the Knotted Tree. The Gathering! Barely a better time for some good conversation, even if her Clan had come too late for a long talk. Plumed tail held high and straight, she scanned the clearing with her pale, leaf green eyes. Perhaps there was a group of Elders, or even one. They were great of exchange stories with...Ah! Her eyes focused on a blue-and-white furred JaggedClan cat (by the scent of stone and wind she made this decision). She had never met the cat before, but the step and appearance marked him as an Elder.
Mood lifting, but lowering her head in a respectful way, she approached the tom. "Hello, I don't think we've met before? My name is Jaycall, PineClan. You smell like JaggedClan, but perhaps..." she cut herself off there, knowing she would keep blabbering at full speed. She'd done it more times then there were cats in StarClan, since she could first speak. Blue-furred ears flattening for the second time in the night, she looked meekly at the elder Oakwood, hoping no bad impression had been made.

Phoenixpaw took once last glance at the apprentice, before settling down by Silentwing. She looked up at him, then focused her gaze on the four leaders, and Wavestar, who was about to speak.
Moonstar nodded silently, her glowing amber eyes scanning the clearing once more. She spotted most of the SnowClan cats, including Raindance, Phoenixpaw and a couple of others. She then looked at Wavestar, and waited patiently to hear news from SandClan.
Heavyheart blinked a greeting to Phoenixpaw. "Are you alright?" he whispered, his eyes full of concern. He wasn't sure how she would handle this being the first Gathering without Hawkflight. The ginger tabby nodded, and swiveled her ears around to the leaders direction.

Wavestar's eyes flickered up to the moon, then back at the cats below, she cleared her throat, and began. "SandClan has been... well this last moon, we recently appointed a medicine cat apprentice, Seapaw, and warrriors have been made." The leader paused, "But we were invaded by sea cats," She spat out the last words. "Whom were driven away thanks to PineClan and SnowClan." No gratitude entered her voice, she felt even that would show weakness. "The issue is not yet resolved however, for we made a truce. It was temporary." She finished, stepping back with a glance at the other two leaders.

♫ - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - >> Seapaw was surprised and delighted at Adderpaw's joke. She knew there must be a brighter side to him than he had let on, and she narrowed her eyes at him in amusement at his sarcastic comment. She decided not to press the subject, letting it go with a mrrow of amusement instead, and glancing it Skypaw who seemed to be lost in thought.
Seapaw opened her mouth to say something, but was cut off at her leader's voice cutting through the sounds of the clearing. Whipping around to face Wavestar, she mewed, "Finally it's starting!" PineClan had taken a long time, but she made no comment on the matter, instead, gazed up at the leaders who were perched upon the branch.
Remembering the last gathering with Adderpaw, Seapaw recalled that they had spoken through all the gathering--and much of it had been spent arguing. Lowering her voice, she mewed quietly, "What, exactly, did we argue about last gathering?"
+
Oakwood turned as a livley young warrior padded up to him. The scent of PineClan clung to her fur, and she looked bright and upbeat, as well as fit and strong. Probably, he realized, not so different from himself when he was a warrior attending a gathering.
"Hello, Jaycall," he mewed, "I am Oakwood of JaggedClan. How do you do?" just as he spoke, Wavestar's voice rang out across the clearing, and he turned to her. "Would you like to accompany me as we watch the gathering?" he mewed. He hoped she would. Younger cats were good company. They were so much more livley--and it wasn't like she was a bouncy apprentice who wouldn't be able to sit still.
+
Wildstar's eyes widened at Wavestar's news. It was true! SandClan had been invaded by cats of the sea! Suddenly, she felt embarrassed. JaggedClan had not come to help in the battle! But, perhaps after the truce...? She was about to open her mouth and offer to help after the truce had been broken and the Ocean Sea cats arrived again, but refrained from doing so, knowing that Wavestar might angrily refuse, or that Wildstar could be mistaken for thinking that SandClan was weak. Instead, she kept her mouth closed, and waited patiently for whichever leader should want to report next.

Jaycall's ears lifted as she was given a pleased introduction, and a short purr of her her own echoed Oakwood's. "Well, hello Oakwood of JaggedClan." she meowed, tail waving in what could be a greeting. She was about to open her mouth to ask a question, when the leader of SandClan started the Gathering. Mood, and face, took a two second dip (the transition is not worthy of a 'dive'), before recovering.
A moment later, a slight high took on when the Elder asked if she would "accompany him to watch the Gathering". "Oh, of course," she mewed politely, but her glee about finding company shone through. "As I say: Good company is the best for any cat's soul." she finished, a bit of a tune in her words. Only she knew that she had made the saying up split second. But it was good, maybe she'd save it...Shrugging, she padded forward and sat next to Oakwood, and looked up at the Clan Leaders.

♫ - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - >> Oakwind did not miss the glee in Jaycall's infliction, and he was glad that he did not seem too much of a geezer for a young, strong warrior such as herself to sit next to during the gathering. "Excellent," he mewed, giving her a friendly flick of the ears as she sat down beside him. He considered her saying. Good company is the best for any cat's soul. A nice statement, he decided. It was certainly true--or at least in his eyes.
"Indeed," he mewed in agreement, "Without company, no cat could be truly happy," and he was suddenly glad that he had company now. Ever since his mate had died, company had seemed more scarce, and he blinked rapidly at the memory of Rabbitear's scent. How he missed her. Gazing up at the sky, he strained his old eyes to see the stars, and wondered if his deceased mate was watching him now from StarClan, sitting at the gathering with company.

Plumed tail resting over cream paws, Jaycall watched the SandClan leader. She wrinkled her nose at the sound of the sea cats. She hadn't been there for the battle, but the wounds brought back didn't need the tales that came back as well to explain the ferocity of the battle. And she remembered the scent from her clanmates, too. While SandClan carried the scent of sand, ocean, and rocks, this clan was all ocean and brine. The salt stung her nose, and she hadn't even been in the battle!
She shook her head, shaking the memory out. The Gathering was about peace after all, and who knew? The cats might have a reason to being there...she couldn't get herself to believe those words too easily. Oh well. Giving a cautious glance to the SandClan leader, who seemed to be in a quick pause, and turned to Oakwood. "So...what's your story?" she asked curiously, and softly, so she wouldn't interrupt anything. That was her- polite...when she remembered.

♫ - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - >> At Wavestar's pause, Oakwind tore his gaze from the stars and looked over in surprise at the cat next to him. "So...what's your story?" Jaycall asked. It wasn't often that Oakwind was asked this, and he thought about the question for a moment, for it had taken him by surprise. After contemplating possible answers for several heartbeats, he sighed, speaking softly as to not disturb the cats around him.
"My story? It's a long one. But recently, my mate Rabbitear died," he said the last part in a strange voice--strange even to him, and it came from his mouth. Had he sounded too strangled? Her name was hard to say. He went over it in his mind. Rabbitear. Once such a carefree name, one he took for granted. Now, he couldn't say it without pain billowing into his body.
Things shouldn't be like this he told himself. The problem was, they were, and he glanced at the she-cat beside him. "What's your story?"

Moonstar nodded slightly as Wavestar spoke. She had not expected the SandClan leader to keep things quiet, as the invasion involved all the cats. Her amber eyes glittered, and she twitched her ears impatiently. Wildstar looked like she was about to say something, but remained silent. Daintily stepping forwards on the branch she was on, Moonstar decided it was time to report on SnowClan. "We wish you the best of luck with healing your warriors and apprentices." Moonstar began, looking directly at Wavestar. She hoped this was not a sign that she wanted SandClan to be stronger. "SnowClan has recently grown by a litter of kits, and another queen is well on the way." she meowed, her voice carrying strongly across the hollow. She didn't mention whose kits they were, so as not to make any other cat think she would not be fighting well. "I have appointed a medicine cat, Silverwish." she continued. "And Phoenixpaw has received a new mentor, after the tragic death of Hawkflight last moon. Raindance." she paused. She was going to mention that none of her warriors had been hurt in the battle with the sea cats, but then discarded the thought. "Our warriors, apprentices and kits are growing stronger by the day. Our Clan is strong." with those last forceful words, she stepped back slightly, and glanced at Wildstar. She was please with what she said. Not too much, not too little.
Phoenixpaw's jaw dropped as Moonstar mentioned her, but abruptly closed it, as half the cats in the clearing were looking directly at her. She had mixed feelings about her mention. For one thing, it reminded her of Hawkflight. But on the other paw, it made her feel proud that she had started again, hopefully with Raindance until she became a warrior.
Heavyheart nodded ever so slightly as Moonstar continued. He listened intently, and noticed she did not say who the mother of the kits were. Perhaps it was for the best. He stretched momentarily, waiting for Wildstar or Ebonystar to report on their own Clans.

Something has changed witin me...Something is not the same....I'm through with playing by the rules of someone elses game.....
(Ahhhh....Grounding sucks!)
Minnowpaw had really thought he'd be save. At the same time as watching everything, he wouldn't need to speak to any other cats. It really wasn't that he was anti-social....well, not mostly...but he happened to get tongue-tied around his own clan- as his sister was always so bluntly pointing out. What would happen around other clans? He'd make a fool of himself.
But it seemed that he wasn't totally away. Well, maybe not, but as he was spying around, he swore he heard someone close by. Maybe they were talking to him...But that wasn't possible, was it?
He turned towards the voice, just in case- and found himself staring into the eyes of the strange apprentice Silentwing had been talking to (apparently named Phoenixpaw). He stiffled a surprised mew, and skittered back a ways, nearly tripping on his tail.
"H...h....h...h...." He stumbled even to get the word hi out, though his throat seemed to have become inexplicably dry, and he was quite unable to. He was unmistakably saved, however, when Phoenixpaw seemed to lose interest in getting something out of him, and instead turned back to sitting next to his mentor- preparing to listen to his leader, who was about to speak now that it seemed the rest of the clans had flowed into the clearing while he'd been stumbling to choke out even a one-syllable greeting.
He sighed with relief, listening too.
Too late for second guessing.....Too late to go back to sleep....It's time to trust my instincts, close my eyes....and leap.....

Jaycall completely turned away from the Knotted Tree to watch Oakwood with a pleased expression. She was curious, after all. And a longer the history the bett-- "But recently, my mate Rabbitear." Jaycall hadn't expected that, and was, metaphoriclly, swept off her paws. She had never loss a mate, of course, or even come close to having one...but she had lost family. And she knew it hurt hurt hurt.
She opened her mouth, only to shut it again, and to open it once more. That time a meow came out, leaf green eyes almost turning darker with painful empathy. "Oakwood...I'm so--" she was cut off by Moonstar beginning her portion of the gathering. Surprisingly, she wasn't annoyed, but completed her mew in a whisper. "So sorry. I bet she was wonderful." With a nod, she looked up at Moonstar, trying to get into the Leader's words. Kits, medicine cats...good, good...

Oakwood nodded. Rabbitear had been wonderful, and he hardened his gaze in an attempt to prevent his eyes from welling up. It worked, and he concentrated on Moonstar, glad not to press the subject of his deceased mate, though, he still wondered about Jaycall's 'story'.
Never mind that, he told himself. Moonstar was speaking. SnowClan seemed strong, from what he could tell, and so many new kits could only make the clan stronger. He hadn't seen a kit in moons, he realized. He almost couldn't remember how they looked or acted, and tried to recall how his own kin had been at birth, but found no memories vivid enough to extract and examine.
+
Wildstar nodded. Both SandClan and SnowClan seemed to be in good shape, and she took Moonstar's glance at her as an invitation to begin her own report. Stepping up, she took a breath before opening her mouth.
"JaggedClan is doing quite well," she mewed loudly, "We have a new medicine cat, Bluefrost. Other than that, there is nothing to report," she stepped back, sitting down carefully on the branch. Of course, there was more to report, but to tell that Bonepaw now had a mentor would reveal that last gathering she did not, and announcing any injuries would just make the clan seem weak. Very little had happened in JaggedClan anyways, she decided. All she said was all that was needed.

Jaycall waited patiently as Moonstar, and then Wildstar, gave their Clan's condition. Despite herself, she was happy PineClan wasn't the only one to be in good shape, and so near to Ice-Freeze's pinnacle. It was few moments after Wildstar had taken back her seat when she realized her own story was to be told, by Oakwood's request. And without motioning, or barely glancing at him, she began.
"Well, a lady will never tell her age, but I was born to Quietstorm and Greytail. There were originally six of us..." she stopped here, leaf green eyes tilted downwards as she entered another quiet lapse (which was happening way too much for her tonight). "But," taking up hew meow again, "Now it's only me and Runningspirit. He didn't come, if you're wonderin'." And she finished there, an only sore as Redpaw's ginger face flashed through her mind. Yet, there wasn't any pain. It went away, carrying his feisty and protective nature with him.
