Ghoststorm nodded to the SandClan she-cat whose name he thought might be Seapaw or Shellpaw or something of the like. It was odd for her to approach a group of warriors like this but he supposed she did have an aura of authority that was quite uncommon among apprentices. "Good evening. I hope the prey is running well in -" The silver tabby's polite greeting was abruptly dropped as PineClan entered...led by Dustwater. What had happened to Ebonystar? The jet-black tom had seemed very much alive, if not darkly powerful, at the last Gathering. What now? Did that mean Dustwater had gained his position? Should he be calling her Duststar? The meant Ebonystar must have appointed her deputy before he died. Or was exiled. Or fell sick. And where was their medicine cat? Had he gone too? PineClan seemed very weak - almost inviting attack from other Clans. Ghoststorm eyed the SandClan she-cat with interest. It was widely known that her Clan and PineClan fought over the Pine-Sand place nearly every other moon. Perhaps SandClan would be busy tomorrow. Swallowing these ideas, the tom gathered his thoughts and flicked an ear as Dustwater (or Duststar) leaped up among the branches of the Knotted Tree. "Well that's new."

"Yes, very well. Plenty of prey for us." Deputy Nightshade nodded rapidly, taking in the scene of the Pineclan group. "It's about time. We really need to start this gathering. I guess I should take my place. Nice meeting you all." With a dip of his ebony head, the the proud cat turned just as Seapaw, or whatever had arrived.
Nightshade bounded up to the oddly-shaped excuse for a tree. Dustwater was the representative for Pineclan this time around? "Has Ebonystar fallen ill?" As he sat down, he glanced up at the other Leaders. Wavestar, Moonstar, Wildstar. Then Dustwater, what a strange difference. "Yes, I do believe we should start, it's getting kind of late."

I said I wasn't gonna loose my head Tigerstorm watched as PineClan finally came. He sighed and sat down next Riverstone. "Spiritpaw, come 'ere." he mewed loud enough for her to here. He looked up at Dustwater. What is a queen doing here? What happened to Ebonystar? Riverstone stared at Dustwater and closed his eyes as Nightshade went to take his place on the foot of the tree.
Lostpaw and Pebblepaw padded over to the middle of the clearing and sighed. Pebblepaw nudged him slightly, but Lostpaw just turned his head and groaned. Why did that apprentice, Spiritpaw have to make fun of him?
Hailfrost bounded into the clearing, right behind Dustwater. He wondered how the other cats would react to the death of their leader. He padded past Tigerstorm and Riverstone, picking a spot next to Veiledeyes. He dipped his head slowly and looked back up at the tree, Dustwater had already taken her place. And than POP goes my heart

Þ-- Fall breathes his chilling breath... Veiledeye's was openly proud about one trait- her sense her smell was terrific. And so, while Nightshade and Ghoststorm were still exchanging words, she was staring at the edge of the hollow, muzzle wrinkled. Nose drawing in one, two quick sniffs, the warrior opened her mouth to allow more scents to flood in. Yes...there was the scent of fur stained with pine in the air! And her prediction was right- for a half minute later, PineClan entered the Gathering zone. ...Led by Dustwater? Blinking her namesake's in surprise, she squinted to make sure the observation was accurate. Yes- the tabby queen was leading the troupe of PineClan cats. She whipped her slim heads around to meow the news- but everyone else had matching looks- startled and extremely curious. And then, with a few scant words, everything was being ready for curtain call. Dustwater- who Veiledeye's was still watching unwaveringly- leaped atop the Knotted Tree's branches along side the other Clan leaders. Cats were shifting to closer positions, and calling over friends and fellows to sit beside. And she better get on it. Catching a glimpse of Ravenpaw's dark coat, she was about to follow her apprentice with a tom- scenting of PineClan- sat next to her. If she just got up and walked off, she would be making a loud message 'I am SO not sitting next to YOU!'. No need for that. Offering the silver-blue tabby a smile and nod, she turned to face the Knotted Tree and the 'cats of cats' (to say) sitting on it's wooden limbs. Things were under way. --reminding Earth of times to come...

I'm such a chatterbox.
Ravenpaw, seeing PineClan, squealed in delight. She ran up to Veiledeyes, and mewed, 'Is that PineClan's leader? Is the gathering about to start? Is it?' All this came out in a jumble of words, and Ravenpaw just wouldn't and couldn't keep still.
Cloudfrost looked up from where he sat by a rock. His blue eyes widened in astonishment. Dustwater? What in StarClan had happened to Ebonystar? On his short legs, it was quite hard to see over the heads of the cats turning to the PineClan patrol that didn't have a leader - or - as Cloudfrost just made out - a medicine cat.

Moonstar twitched her tail irritably. Where was Ebonystar, and PineClan? She needed all the leaders present at the Gathering to talk about Phoenixpaw. Her mind suddenly flew back to camp. She hoped Phoenixpaw hadn't...Gone to StarClan. With all her heart, she wished Phoenixpaw a safe journey if she was called by their warrior ancestors.
She pricked up her ears and her eyes narrowed as a group of cats filed into the clearing. At the head of the patrol was...Dustwater? Where is Ebonystar? Her muscles tightened as she realised that either the black leader had died or gone somewhere. But he had seemed very much alive in the last Gathering...And as far as she knew, he still had many of his lives left. She curled her tail around the branch she was stood on, and her glinting amber eyes followed the PineClan cat as she leaped confidently onto a branch. Her neck fur began to rise as Dustwater explained why she was late.
Heavyheart's brow creased in concern as the PineClan patrol padded into the hollow. Dustwater? But wheres Ebonystar? From glancing around, most cats were wondering exactly the same question. He glanced up at Moonstar, who seemed relatively composed, but from this distance, he could still see the silver leader's neck fur rising. He started, remembering that he was taking Raindance's place for this Gathering. He hastily trotted over to where Soulstealer was, and the black deputy gave him a absent glance, his gaze fixed glaringly at Dustwater.
Soulstealer was indeed annoyed. How come SandClan had heard nothing of it? The news of Ebonystar's death should have reached them by now. And it looked like he chose a new deputy before he died. But why should he? Had the deputy died too? He fixed his evil, blood red eyes up at the new cat on the branches, his gaze not wavering except to glance at Heavyheart. Rage boiled up inside him. The PineClan cats arrive late, with a new leader, and they don't even tell the other Clans what the 'problems' are?

♫- there's only music so that there's new ring tones... | Ignoring the bewildered stares and questions she heard and saw flying around the clearing, Dustwater acted oblivious to the commotion, as if it did not exist, as if she'd been PineClan's leader all along. Ebonystar? Who's Ebonystar? Why he's a cat of legend! A myth! There never was an Ebonystar! It helped keep her calm.
Hearing the businesslike mew that basically said, "let's get this show on the road" sound below her from a cat who she was assuming was the JaggedClan deputy, Dustwater opened her maw.
"The time has come for the gathering to begin!" she yowled, as if she had been doing it all her life, "Cats of all clans, please gather here, beneath the knotted tree!"
My reign has begun. She could not help but allow her tail a small twitch of satisfaction. Everything is falling into place, just as Swallow always dreamed.
________________________________________________________
Wildstar stared, bewildered, as the newbie who refused to inform the other leaders of what was going on called the gathering to a start. Who does she think she is, Ebonystar? Wildstar's eyes were round and unblinking for several moments, her fur even on end--but at realization of how she must look (a very alarmed leader atop the knotted tree at the gathering, and very unprofessional) she forced her fur to flatten and her eyes to blink.
What is Dustwater doing?!
She certainly acted like she was a leader but...the moment her paws made contact with the knotted tree, Wildstar could not shake the feeling that something very out-of-place was there--and it could only be Dustwater.
________________________________________________________
Oakwood scowled. What an arrogant she-cat! She owed the clans an explanation! As cats began to gather by the base of the tree--he gave a brief nod as a cat he knew as Seaturtle made herself comfortable at his side--he glared up at the tabby-and-white she-cat. The newbie calling the gathering to order. He didn't like it one bit! He was used to Ebonystar!
"What's happened to Ebonystar?!" he rasped loudly, struggling to his paws on creaky joints, "He's been leader of PineClan for more seasons n' I can count! What're you doing in his place?"
He'd had plenty of lives left. He was young and strong. Oakwood remembered the first time he'd attended the gathering as leader, proud and sleek. So what had happened?!
________________________________________________________
Fear tugged, clawed, dug into Seaturtle's belly as she left the company of the elite cats in favor of an outspoken elder who smelled of JaggedClan and herbs. He was obviously an experienced cat who'd served his clan well, but was creaky and old. She imagined he must have been a great warrior at one point, and was glad when he stood up, demanding an explanation about Ebonystar's absence. She was worried for Adderpaw and Skyfeather. Why was Dustwater doing this?! If she was indeed PineClan's new leader, what gave her the confidence to call the meeting to order? What gave her the right to disinclude the medicine cat from the gathering?
Suddenly, Seaturtle wasn't just scared for her friends. She was mad.
"Yeah!" she yowled, standing up alongside the creaky elder, "And you know, medicine cats never attend the gathering, so I see why yours hasn't come!" Her tongue was raw and bitter with sarcasm and hate.

Ghoststorm's ears pricked up with interest as the Gathering began. Conflict already? The leaders hadn't even begun to speak yet. The silver tabby tom couldn't resist the smirk that formed in the corner of his mouth - what a fretful bunch of hairballs they were sometimes. He was proud to see no SnowClan cats stepping out of place and making fools of themselves by yowling out. He was also glad that SnowClan had none of the leadership problems PineClan was riddled with. Not that they had bad leaders - Ebonystar and Dustwater were both very strong and capable cats - but their leaders seemed to be sinister in comparison with clever Moonstar and the young-at-heart Wildstar.
He cast a glance at the wide-eyed she-cat he was still seated near, wondering if she agreed with her elderly Clanmate. The his gaze traveled across the deputies, wondering what they made of it, and wishing Raindance were here too. He didn't want any cat thinking she'd died. It would make them look weak. Then again, PineClan had no medicine cat - as Seapaw had pointed out - or a deputy, as far as he could tell. Everything was up in the (very swift moving) air here.

-------------------->Blood will spill blood...
Moonstar let her fur lie flat again. It would do no use for her to appear angry. Indeed, Dustwater had not announced that she would be taking over another Clan's territory or anything. But it still annoyed her quite a bit to see a newbie leader starting the Gathering. Still, as long as she didn't make a claim on SnowClan's territory, then she wasn't going against her. She needed friends, not enemies.
Soulstealer glared at Dustwater, but he didn't yowl out like some other cats. He twitched his tail to the SandClan cats, signaling to them to be quiet, not that any of them had shouted out. His darksome eyes flared with anger at the arrogant she-cat on the Knotted Tree as she announced the Gathering to start. What authority did she have? None, that was it.
Heavyheart glanced nervously to his side. Soulstealer looked like he was ready to murder Dustwater, and the stormy grey warrior hoped that the truce wouldn't be broken. He looked up at the moon, but no clouds were rolling across the sky. It was a perfectly clear night.
And the lake will run red...<------------------------- [/sub]

Nightshade's jaw dropped. Dustwater had started the Gathering?! If and when he became leader, he would be afraid to speak, let alone start the Gathering! Shaking his head, he looked over at Oakwood, who was yowling with Seaturtle.
This was insane! The new leader, Dustwater had already started the Gathering. Or, was it Duststar? Oh, that didn't matter! +~+~+~+~ Spiritpaw rushed over to Tigerstorm, a look of almost fear in her eyes. "Tigerstorm, why is Dustwater starting the Gathering?" The silver tabby stared up at her mentor, amazed. This couldn't be right! "This isn't right..." she sighed and sat down. +~+~+~+~ Stonepaw was just as surprised. "Uhm, wait up, guys!" The little she-cat bounded over to her friends, and landed beside Lostpaw. "Hey, Lostpaw, about back there...uhm. We'll talk later, ok?"(OoC: Another little romance forming? JK)
The calico apprentice sighed and lay dawn, pressing against her blind comanion.

Riverstone glanced over at Veiledeyes, whom was just sitting there, so he decided to do the same, relaxing slowly and glanced up at Dustwater. "Just let the gathering go on!" he snapped to Skyfeather. "I'm sure she'll tell us everything when it's her time to speak!" he yowled, hoping to make everyone quiet.
Tigerstorm nodded and glanced over at Riverstone. He quickly looked down at Spiritpaw and sighed. "Shh, she will explain everything." he put his tail around the young cat's jaws his way of telling her to keep her trap shut.
Lostpaw turned his head and nodded. "Yeah, I don't like that, 'Spiritpaw'." he sighed and scooted away from Stonepaw. Why would she lean against him like that? He turned he leaned against Pebblepaw with a sigh. Pebblepaw just gave him an affectionate lick to make his fur lie flat. He grimaced and scooted away from her. Why did everyone treat him like a kit?

Wavestar sniffed as a waft of PineClan scent hit her, she remained cmposed- until the last clan entered the clearing. Dustwater. What was Dustwater doing? Wavestar felt her eyes begin to narrow as Dustwater chose a perch on the winding branches of the tree, but swiftly opened them properly again as questions rushed through her mind; where was Ebonystar? Why was Dustwater taking over when she hadn't been deputy before? What had happened to the proud, menacing tom who had once been in Dustwater's place? Wavestar shuddered, Ebonystar would come if he was ill, she knew, he wouldn't want to seem weak. That left only two other alternatives... She just managed to stop herself from scowling as Dustwter began the gathering, cockily, proudly... annoyingly in Wavestar's opinion. She turned to her head slightly, and asked, queitly, but loud enough for all to hear- "What has come of Ebonystar?"

I'm such a chatterbox.
Cloudfrost's jaw dropped open. Dustwater had just started the gathering. Something was certainly wrong there. Wanting to yowl out to the PineClan 'leader' Cloudfrost opened his mouth, then shut it again, knowing what trouble he would be in with Moonstar if that happened.
Forcing himself to sit quietly, the fluffy white SnowClan tom curled his busy tail over his front paws, his blue gaze trained on Dustwater. What would be her next move? Would she realise that she had just made a fatal mistake?

Wolfpaw had walked quite slow to the Gathering, dragging his paws as if he were walking to his execution. His first Gathering, a landmark event for an apprentice of his tender age--he ought to have been at least somewhat excited, if not thrilled. But the expression on Wolfpaw's face betrayed anything but happiness, rather a growing look of fright as he drew closer to the clearing, and the voices of other cats grew louder. Golden eyes widening, Wolfpaw nudged the last bit of underbrush out of his path with his nose, only to be battered with an onslaught of unfamiliar scents. He wrinkled his nose slightly and narrowed his eyes, trying his best to assume what he considered a casual demeanor as he attempted to saunter--but ended up stumbling--into the clearing. More cats than he'd ever seen in his life were gathered there, enough to shove Ebonystar's death from his mind completely. Wolfpaw's heart quickened to about a million beats per minute as he blushed fiercely and dropped his eyes, taking a seat not far away from a small group of apprentices from other Clans. He stole a glance towards them, chuckled at their silly bantering as if he was among them, keeping cozy in the chill of midnight. But he pointedly remained a few foxlengths away, hunched over and shivering slightly, his fur prickling with discomfort.
As soon as Dustwater's howl silenced the cats, Wolfpaw glanced up again, confusion flickering momentarily through his eyes. Honestly, he hadn't really realized that Dustwater had taken Ebonystar's place until just now--before he'd reached the Gathering, he'd been in an Ebonystar's-death-induced daze, and later, keeping his cool in front of the bazillions of cats present had demanded all his attention. So now, his jaw nearly dropped with surprise. Dustwater was the last one he would have expected to have been chosen to represent PineClan, although, judging from what little he knew about the warrior, Wolfpaw supposed she probably had just seized the opportunity when it had risen. Thoroughly confused, Wolfpaw gave his head a little shake, wincing as a couple astonished yowls filled the air. He wished they could just get on with the Gathering and let him go back home..

Ignoring the outraged yowls that sounded below, Dustwater stood taller, dipping her head in as grief-full a manner she could muster at the questions that surrounded her. They all basically summed up to: Where is Ebonystar?
"Ebonystar," she mewed loudly, trying to get the cats below her to settle. She watched as the JaggedClan elder who had yowled took a seat, followed very grudgingly and with an icy grey-blue glare by the SandClan she-cat who'd demanded information about where Skyfeather was.
"Ebonystar," she started again, quieter this time, "Was found dead in the forest just hours ago. There was not a scrape or bruise on his body--yet he was certainly dead, and lying in a pool of his own blood." she choked out the last part, hanging her head and shuddering as if trying to keep emotions in check. Well, she was--but in a very different way.
"The cats who have not come to the gathering are burying him on territory. We have no elders to do such things, you see..." she trailed off. "This by no means, represents weakness!" she snapped suddenly, taking an alarming stance, "We are still ready to fight off any cat that may come our way! Don't even start to think about trying any funny stuff!" She shot a dangerous glance at Wavestar very briefly.
"Additionally," she mewed, sitting down, "Skypaw has been made our medicine cat. Her name is now Skyfeather. And Forestwhisker has given birth to new kits. That is all."
Dipping her head briefly, then yowling to the sky, Dustwater mewed, "Ebonystar, may StarClan guard you through your journey."
She sat delicately on the branch then, waiting for the reaction of the cats below her.
