I'm such a chatterbox.
The horror and disbelief in her eyes betrayed Ravenpaw's fright. 'The... the leader and medicine cat died?' She let out a small whimper, and edged closer to her mentor, hoping that Veiledeyes wasn't sad. Ravenpaw had never known the leader, or the medicine cat, but she had seen death before, and couldn't even begin to imagine what it would be like to lose Wildstar.
So that was why Dustwater had started the Gathering. Thats why she had even led PineClan to the gathering. Not being able to help himself, Cloudfrost yowled, 'Are you going to be the leader now, Dustwater?' He closed his mouth as though they were forced shut, and looked at his paws, only flickering his eyes up to look at Dustwater.
'Never run out of things to say!!

Ghoststorm showed no reaction. No widening of eyes, no shooting up of the tail and certainly no verbal astonishment. However, inside the gears were churning double-time. Ebonystar had died. That was a mild shame but probably good for his Clan in the long run since the dark leader had always had the air of a cat ready to pounce about him. However, the bit that irritated Ghoststorm was the way of death. No scratches, no bruises, no cuts and yet dead as the mice on SnowClan's fresh-kill pile. How? He suspected foul play. Dustwater was either lying, leaving out parts of the truth or there was a third element here that he was unaware of. But Dustwater did convey the appropriate emotion very well - it might be a cliche, but maybe it was too well. For some reason, Ghoststorm's intuition was pounded inside his skull - something was not right here. More than one something, in fact. And whatever had killed Ebonystar may well provide a threat to SnowClan, whose territory lay right next to PineClan's.
Aside from that, Forestwhisker's kits didn't interest him but the silver tabby was irked to see that SnowClan was now the only Clan without medicine cat or medicine cat apprentice. That could prove disastrous for future battles. SnowClan was by far the best Clan - why did they get all these inconveniences?

Wavestar watched in growing alarm at Dustwater's, (or was it star's?) words, questions rushed through her mind so fast that she ould barely register them, quietly she asked, her voice confused, "Ebonystar made you deputy?"
If he hadn't...? Who knew? Wavestar pondered the question, looking up at the sky. The moon was round and full, naging like a silken orb in the air, it's watery silver light spreading unsheathed across the ground. Her suspicions began to change towards realisation, after all, if Dustwater was actually Duststar, surely StarClan would send a sign of some sort?
Whether it was true or not, Wavestar hoped desperatly that this was not a bad turn for any clan.

Eyes nearly popping out of his skull, the ebony tom tilted his head back to look at Dustwater. Wavestar took the words out of his mouth. "But, Dustwater, when did he make you Deputy? If he died on the territory, he had to have made you Deputy earlier than his death."
But really, the news of a new Medicine Cat and some cat he didn't know having kits didn't intrest him. At the moment, the only kits he could care about more than others were his own. Nightshade sighed and shook his head. With his luck, Wildstar would present Jaggedclan's news last. +~+~+~+~+~ Spiritpaw wasn't so confused. Cats had to die, sometime...right? But, Ebonystar was a leader. Leader's had nine lives. But, as far as the silver tabby could tell, the jet-black leader had to have lost some lives sometime.
Spiritpaw dragged her gaze from the Knotted tree to look at the two apprentices she had taunted bafore. Stonepaw had laned on Lostpaw, who moved to lean on Pebblepaw, then moved so he wasn't leaning on anybody. +~+~+~+~ "Lostpaw, what's wrong?" Stonepaw looked at her blind companian, seemingly hurt. "Did I do something?" The calico she-cat sat up, feeling guilty that she might've broken Lostpaw's heart. "I'm really sorry, Lostpaw. I really am. We can talk when we get back to camp, please."

--->Animals don't have a voice, to tell their abuser to stop, Riverstone's jaw dropped, Ebonystar died? But how? No marks or anything, just a puddle of blood? He shook his head and closed his eyes. It was impossible! Unless it was something like a weird disease that could spreas to JaggedClan! He flinched slightly and looked over at Tigerstorm. He was just sitting there his tail flicking back and forth. Glancing from Dustwater, maybe Duststar now, to all of the other leaders. How could Tigerstorm keep his cool in a time like this?
Lostpaw looked over at Stonepaw and than at Pebblepaw. He turned away from them and padded over to where Spiritpaw was. He could smell her snow scented fur. "Spiritpaw, did she just say that Ebonystar is dead?" he had a shocked expression on his face yet he was happy. This meant the clan was weak, no matter what Dustwater said. SandClan could take the Sand-Pine terra!
Hailfrost nodded, but Dustwater did leave out the part about the dogs. The dogs made us stronger. he shrugged and looked up at the rest of the leaders' who was going next? We have to be that voice, help stop Animal Cruelty!<---

Þ-- Fall breathes his chilling breath... At those three words, so simple but so deep, Veiledeyes did a completely bodily response. She recoiled, pale eyes snapping shut as the warrior shrunk into a smaller position, tail wrapping around protectively as she did so. It's not like the ashen she-cat did not know of death. Her sister had fell off a cliff, her dad killed by vegetarian prey. In truth, a percentage of the reaction was caused by what the other cats surrounding her were doing. She, Miss Oddity, had succumbed to peer pressure for the millionth time. But the majority of it was just shock. She had met Ebonystar at previous Gatherings. Interesting tom. Looked fitting among the other, older Leaders. But...had an odd feeling to him. But she had dismissed as one of those "look who's talking" situations. In a way, the she-cat wished that she had gotten to know Ebonystar better. And this Dustwater much better. And so, as if to contrast her earlier actions, the ashen cat remained quiet as caterwauls and grumbles alike spouted spouted from all over. She focused on untangling her jangly limbs. --reminding Earth of times to come...

I'm such a chatterbox.I'm such a chatterbox.
Ravenpaw was crouched low on the ground, shaking, her eyes trained on her paws. She mumbled. 'But...but...but.... How...?' It was no use. The young apprentice couldn't see a way through. How would PineClan live without a leader.. and no deputy either?
But what she wanted to know was why was she so absessed with PineClan's problems? No. She musn't. She was a loyal JaggedClan cat! Straightening her back and looking up, she tried to look controlled. She curled her sleek black tail over her paws and listened to the Gathering once more.

-------------------->Blood will spill blood...
Moonstar forced herself to show nothing of her emotions, and on the outside, she looked incredibly calm and in control. But on the inside, she was frozen in disbelief. How in the name of StarClan did he die? she wondered. A thought suddenly hit her. What if Dustwater had killed him, and tried to cover it up? After all, she had been deputy mysteriously, and now she was trying to take charge of the Gathering...Something wasn't right. Somehow, Moonstar thought that Dustwater had not been granted her nine lives yet. And anyway, StarClan might have sent her a sign of some sort, telling her of the new leader. Also, the news should have reached SnowClan camp long before the Gathering. She flicked her tail to Cloudfrost, signaling for silence. Let this new leader speak... she thought, her eyes holding the minutest of a glare. But still, she would give Dustwater a chance.
Heavyheart stared at Dustwater. What? How did Ebonystar die? How come she was made deputy? Why was she taking charge? A million questions circled his head, but he forced himself to remain calm. Unconsciously, he had let his neck fur rise, but he let it lie flat again. He unsheathed and sheathed his claws restlessly, lashing his tail as he waited for a leader to speak.
Soulstealer hissed in annoyance as Dustwater spoke arrogantly. His ears were flat against his head and the expression on his face was enough to make the toughest warriors run yowling to their den. "How could this happen?" he hissed under his breath. "Ebonystar was fit and healthy the last time I saw him!" But he suddenly thought of something. If PineClan's new leader was...Well, new, the Clan would not be as strong as before. If they took them by surprise, SandClan could win back the Sand-Pine territory for their own. In his mind, Soulstealer was already beginning to plan an attack. But he did not show anything of it, and knew he would have to wait until after the Gathering to report to Wavestar. But of course, she might be thinking the same thing.

º Ignoring the cats around her who yowled, demanding an explanation of how she became leader or deputy, Dustwater simply gazed down at the cats below, forcing compassion into her murky green gaze.
"Ebonystar is a cat who all clans will miss for many seasons to come. We wish him well rest--may StarClan guide his paws."
Dipping her head for what felt like the millionth time, she sat down on the branch. She had to get the attention away from herself! Glancing around, she tried to pinpoint the weakest link. The leader who hadn't questioned her, and who looked most alarmed. The leader most off-guard. And that was clearly Wildstar.
"Wildstar, I assume you'd like to report JaggedClan's news now?"
_____________________________________________________
Wildstar's amber eyes widened, and she scrambled to her paws. Report JaggedClan's news?! How could she concentrate now?! Nevertheless, it had to be done, and so, too dazed to realize Dustwater's motives, she opened her maw.
"Yes, yes thank you, Dustwater. Uhm, so JaggedClan..." she gave her gnarled chest fur a quick lick, "Yes, we have lots to report. Lots. . Well let's see, Nightshade is our deputy now, and himself and his mate Silentsong have given birth to kits," mind still spinning, Wildstar was using immense concentration to try and keep her mind on the task at hand without wandering, "Uh, also, one of our own JaggedClanners, Pepperthorn, has tried to kill her sister Bonecry. She may be lurking on territory somewhere, and if you see her, do not approach her! She's a bloodthirsty murderer, and she's been banished. She is not to be approached or helped if seen." Was that it? Wildstar thought that was pretty much it. Sitting back down, she mewed, "Would Wavestar or Moonstar like to take the floor?" Realizing what a horrible job she'd just done, Wildstar stiffened, nose flushing red, tail curling. She'd just put it out of her mind. She hadn't stuttered or been nervous. No sir-ee. She'd done a just snazzy job of reporting JaggedClan's news. ______________________________________________________ Seaturtle felt as if she was on the verge of tears at the news that the leaders presented. How was this happening? Why wouldn't Dustwater explain about her leadership?! What was she trying to hide?! Fuming in rage, she watched as the cunning she-cat thrust the responsibility of reporting the clan's news on what Seaturtle was sure she knew, the least prepared cat. Despite the fact that she hardly knew Wildstar, she felt bad for her as she stood, obviously flustered, and tried to report her clan's news when her mind was obviously on other things.[/blockquote]

Ghoststorm's tail flicked in (slightly cruel) amusement as Wildstar gave her report. If that didn't prove that JaggedClan were a bunch of mouse-brains, he didn't know what did. Normally, the tom wouldn't feel so hostile toward any particular Clan but these were the cats who were responsible for killing a SnowClan apprentice and, effectively, demobilizing their deputy in the process. He found it hard to show much compassion to them right now. That Dustwater was a cunning she-cat and obviously knew how to handle her leadership. Ghoststorm acknowledged and respected this but it didn't make him like her. On the contrary it made him very wary of her, and the Clan she now lead.
He cast a glance at the ebony deputy and the wide-eyed she-cat beside him to see what their reaction would be to this bumbling excuse for a leader's report. He'd be ducking his head in embarrassment if that had been Moonstar but that would never happen. Moonstar still appeared cool and collected, making him proud of his Clan's competences. SnowClan was so the best.

Yeah right... Moonstar thought, her amber gaze now holding a larger part of a glare as she looked scornfully at Dustwater. Then her dislike spread into annoyance as the she-cat announced that Wildstar should report her news first. Still, it would give the leader of JaggedClan time to explain Phoenixpaw's 'accident'.
Her fur began to rise as Wildstar spoke falteringly. It was so obvious that Wildstar was flustered and unprepared. However, that wasn't the thing that angered Moonstar. Wildstar hadn't mentioned one thing about the fight over the Jagged-Snow strip. She felt no pity towards the JaggedClan leader, and she had an urge to leap and tear her to threads. But she restrained herself, and forced herself to sheath her claws and let her neck fur lie flat again. She would not wait for Wavestar. This news had to given now. Stepping forward confidently, she shot a glare at Wildstar, then began to speak. "SnowClan is running well, and prey is well-stocked and our warriors are well-trained and fit." she meowed, her clear mew echoing over the clearing, and her gaze traveled over Ghoststorm, Heavyheart and Soulstealer, who looked like he was ready to rip Dustwater's heart out. "There will be soon three new apprentices in the Clan." she transfered her gaze to Wildstar. "Which leads me onto my next topic. Would you like to tell me why one of your warriors nearly clawed Phoenixpaw to death on a simple dispute over borders?" she spat the last sentence.
Heavyheart remained perfectly still and silent all through Wildstar's speech, although he was feeling mixed emotions. Part of him felt sorry for the leader who had seemed full of energy earlier, and was now stuttering and failing to bring her Clan's news to the rest of the cats. But part of him felt angry at Wildstar for also failing to mention Phoenixpaw. Perhaps he would try and deny it? If he did, Heavyheart would be on his paws, ready to defend his leader.
Soulstealer's gaze flickered as Moonstar's eyes passed over him, but then returned to their usual hostility, glaring at Dustwater. He never once took his eyes off her, not even to look at Wildstar. But when Moonstar hissed that an apprentice had 'nearly been clawed to death', he looked at her with interest. Which JaggedClan warrior had it been? One that wasn't at the Gathering, probably, to protect him from SnowClan....And he also presumed that Phoenixpaw, the apprentice in question, wouldn't be here either.
And the lake will run red...<------------------------- [/sub]

Riverstone's eyes blazed. He had been at that 'border fight'. He leaped to his paws, his fur bristling and his tail twitching angrily. "Why don't you ask your warriors?" he hissed loudly. He couldn't control himself! Did those SnowClan warriors not mention how Garnetstorm started the whole thing? That tom had attacked him, and Xyriscalyx was dealing with another warrior, Heavyheart. Phoenixpaw was going to get more warriors! What else could Stormcloud do? he wanted to yowl that all out. Any of them could have died and they were warriors, much better than any silly apprentice.
Tigerstorm smirked. Riverstone was all fired up now. He flattened the fur on his chest and sighed. "Someone better explain it." he mewed aloud and twitched his tail glaring at Soulstealer. Tigerstorm and him were so alike, yet they were probably worst enemies, in Togerstorm's eyes atleast.
Pebblepaw turned to Stonepaw. "Don't worry, he'll get over everything. Did you hear that though? JaggedClan and SnowClan got into a fight!" she was staring at her denmate with wide eyes.
Lostpaw turned back toward Stonepaw and curled his tail around his paws. "Spiritpaw?" he whispered, remembering he was sitting next to the apprentice. "Is that what really happened? With Phoenixpaw?"

Þ-- Fall breathes his chilling breath... Veiledeyes kneaded the ground anxiously, dirtying her paws, as every cat in the Clearing held their breath, waiting for Dustwater to speak, to finish her report. And the tabby did just that, stopping before any protests could be aroused, and tossed the baton to Wildstar. The warrior kept her wide, pale green gaze on the representative, and more then likely leader, of PineClan, before switching over to her own leader. Well, there was going to be...interesting events to report. By the end of it all, the warrior had her eyes closed. But, not in embarrassment. Or anger. No, just simple acceptance. She would have grinned if it weren't for the reactions flooding in from surrounding clan cats. It was just too much like Wildstar to slip up a bit in public speaking. And it seemed half the cats in the Clearing were believing this was the final line in leadership. Plus, technically, news had been reported. So, she opened her eyes, no signs of what was flooding into her mind on her face. And saw Moonstar hissing at her leader. And, technically, the entirety of JaggedClan. The ashen she-cat whipped her head around, taking in the expanses of yowling, silent but curious, murmuring, and many more feline faces around the Knottted Tree. What a mess, and Veiledeyes found herself wishing that she had been in the fight, to at least witness. To help her Clan out. Looking over her shoulder once more, she took a closer look. Apprentices were gossiping, and she could see the warrior she had spoken to, Ghoststorm, looking quite smug. The sight sent an unusual reaction: Veiledeyes' making the fur edging her tail bristle, the tip twitching. These SnowClan cats were so confident! She could just... "Why can't you just be happy that this apprentice lived? A bad border scuffle is nothing compared to a life!" Veiledeyes liked the thought. In fact, it was so logical. But, it didn't appear like that when the JaggedClan cat realized that...she had just caterwauled her statement. Eyes widening dramatically, any scrap of pride she had just held was gone, gone, gone. Fur no longer bristling, but instead clinging to her body like a newborn kit to it's mother, the she-cat immediately tried to shrink, camouflage into the ground. It didn't matter if no one had heard her... --reminding Earth of times to come...

º Wildstar glowered as the SnowClan leader lost control, hissing angry accusations at Wildstar. Fur bristling, the she-cat stood so that she was at the same level as her "opponent."
Don't let her get the best of you, Wildstar. You can do this!
Suddenly, caterwauls sounded from below. Scrunching her face in frustration, Wildstar whipped around to face the cats who gazed up at the tree branch. They were ruining it! She didn't need a bunch of JaggedClan cats calling out! It would just make them look more out of control than they already did! Why would any clan believe them when her warriors were acting like kits?!
"If you're wise, you'll hold you tongues!" Wildstar snapped before turning back to face Moonstar.
"Please, let's not turn this into a fight," she mewed, giving the moon a wary glance as if she already expected a cloud to be covering it. It was clear.
"What I want to know is why Garnetstorm was so eager for a fight? My warriors tried to make peace, and he attacked! They could do nothing but fight back, and we were already at a disadvantage, outnumbered by far, when Pheonixpaw was sent to bring re-enforcements. That's not fair play, our warriors were just trying to defend their lives in a ridiculous situation! Your cats--or at lest one of them--was obviously looking for a fight. Furthermore, the battle happened on the unclaimed territory that lays between between our two clans. There was no trespassing, and no reason for battle. I daresay, if any cat should be held responsible for Pheonixpaw's injuries it's Garnetstorm's, for picking a fight and putting JaggedClan in an impossible situation! This argument is making a disgrace of us before the other clans. How must we look to them?! Be peaceful, Moonstar!"
Well, that was easier than expected. Giving her wild fur a final lick she sat down once again, hoping her little speech had worked.
"I wish Pheonixpaw the best in her recovery. It shouldn't have come to this."

-------------------->Blood will spill blood...
Moonstar was exceptionally glad that Garnetstorm had not come to this Gathering. "He will be punished," she meowed shortly, her amber eyes cold. "But that does still not explain your warrior's actions. If she had gone back to get reinforcements, she must have been on SnowClan territory when Stormcloud tore her to pieces. Why didn't he simply hold her down and stop her from getting back to SnowClan, instead of clawing open her side and nearly killing her? I accept the fact that cats do sometimes die in battle, but if the JaggedClan patrol were outnumbered from the start, why didn't you just accept defeat rather than a warrior fatally injuring a small apprentice?" she paused, letting the words sink in. She did not want to cause a fight, nor did she want to be at war with JaggedClan, but this needed to be sorted out. A yowl came from below from a JaggedClan warrior, but Moonstar ignored it, and locked gazes with Wildstar, waiting for a reply.
Heavyheart stared at Moonstar. He had rarely seen her this angry, and he couldn't help admiring the fact that she was slightly more...composed that he would have been, definitely. He glanced at Vieledeyes, but didn't say anything.
Soulstealer narrowed his eyes at Dustwater, but then turned his gaze to Wildstar. The leader seemed more confident now, but not that much so. He was glad that SandClan was not part of this dispute, and also he was glad that those two leaders should be distracted enough for the Clan to make a move on the Sand-Pine territory. But not yet.
And the lake will run red...<------------------------- [/sub]
