Sunpaw gave her leg an experimental twitch, then tried to stand up, she slipped and lumbered to one side, but managed to catch herself. After a few seconds, she stumbled, falling to the ground so quickly it was almost... completely, comical.

Looking with some slight interest on his face, Ebonystar nodded. Sunpaw's act was almost.. Amusing. If Ebonystar could be amused by a plain apprentice. Remembering Needlegaze's comment, the tom turned back to Skypaw, his eyes listless and now disinterested. He had been there, after all. Skypaw's failure was no real news to him. But Needlegaze was right, something should be done, Ebonystar didn't want to run a clan of weaklings, after all. "Skypaw. For your.. Delayed reaction to Sunpaw's injury, you will not be allowed to leave the camp. Dawnpaw will collect herbs for you, and if she fails, then ask a warrior to help you. However, you did save Sunpaw, so this punishment will only last a few days." Ebonystar paused, after this long sentence. It was probably the most he had spoken in his life. "Adderpaw, the same goes for you, for speaking out in the gathering without permission. I'm sure Hummingsky will agree not to train you for a few days." Speaking in what was probably a monotone, Ebonystar turned around, not leaving any room for questioning. Where was Hummingsky? He had to question her about her dream..

Needlegaze wore his usual scowl, but inside, he was purring as he slipped into the warriors den. Finally, justice was being served to those who misbehaved! Once out of everyone's range of view, he allowed his whiskers to twitch in smug amusement. He loved seeing other cats get in trouble. It was his joy to be the one standing there, looking down on a cat as they were given a punishment. Curling up on the floor of the warriors den, all hapiness drained out of him as he remembered Dustwater. They usually slept together in the den, her warm body curled against his. It felt cold and lonley in the den without her. Shifting his position so that he was pushed against the trunk of the great tree under which he slept, he closed his eyes, willing sleep to come. Eventually, it did. But it was restless.

Sunpaw attempted to crawl along, flinching every so often, the apprentice didn't aim to go anywhere, she was mainly exerimenting, were there anythings she shouldn't do that would trigger pain? Mainly twist, she found.

Skypaw opened her mouth to say something in her defence but thought better of it. Then she opened it again to say something for her brother but decided she couldn't as she had no idea what had happened in the Gathering. Nodding silently, the brown and white she-cat simply curled up in her own nest, watching Sunpaw experiment with the satisfaction that had come from saving her life. Skypaw purred softly to herself, her first case, although it started out disasterously, had come good in the end. "Don't sretch too much, Sunpaw." She cautioned, "We don't want that wound re-opening." She was happy or a moment but then the little cat's head drooped back to her paws as she remembered that she would have to tell Adderpaw about his confinement tomorow. She wouldn't wake him now with the bad news - that would just be cruel - but soon she would have to break it to him. He would be mad, to put it lightly.

Sunpaw nodded, brown eyes gleaming gratefully, she laid down, paws in front of her and rested her head on them, eyes slipping closed, not to sleep, just to rest. But an overwhelming sense tiredness finally claimed her and the apprentice fell into a world of dreams; sleep.

It was morning, the sun was just peeking its way over the horizon, sending is pale yellow light splashing across the pine trees. In the distance, a bird could be heard cawing. Even farther off, if you listened hard enough, you could hear the crash of waves on a distant sandy shore.
And then, there was a new noise. Crashing, through the undergrowth, and collapsing into camp with a horrible yowl.
Dustwater raked her tonge through her kit's fur furiously, wrapping her body around the mewing scrap of fur, trying to protect it from the cold, whines bubbling from her throat every so often. She was weak. Her dusty grey fur was stained with blood and caked with snow. Her green eyes, pained. She felt weakend, threatened, limp, but she proceeded raking her tongue through her kit's fur until it stopped shaking and began feeding. Then she gave a horrible yowl. "Needlegaze!" she cried hoarsley, "Needlegaze!"
Needlegaze's eyes shot open at the sound of his name. Was that Dustwater?? What had happened to her? She sounded like she was in agony! Bolting up from where he slept, he darted into the clearing to see her laying on her side. She looked pathetic. Her fur was filled with snow and matted, not to mention stained with blood. She looked weak and vulnerable. It filled him with rage and agony. If a cat had hurt her--if any cat had hurt her--he would rake their eyes out and eat them alive! "Dustwater!" he yowled back, running faster than he ever had to sit at her side. In an instant, he was raking his tongue through her fur, cleaning it of blood and snow and ice. "What happened?" he mewed in frantic alarm between licks, "are you alright?" "Needlegaze," she choked, "I had kits--our kits! But I had them on my own! And I could only save one! Needlegaze, they died! Two of our kits have died!" He was collapsing beside her then, yowling in agony, frustration, pain. It wasn't supposed to happen like this! Good warriors like himself, their kits didn't die, and especially like this. He curled against her, and she curled against him, and the two cats stared in agony and wonder and pain down at the grey suckling kit.

A pain-filled yowling broke into Skypaw's dreams of sweet-smelling herbs, bringing her back to the real world with a jolt. She sat up, noticing the Sunpaw had fallen asleep too, and scented the air. There was the sour tang of blood along with the sweeter scent of milk. Where's that coming from? There hadn't been any kits in PineClan since Sunpaw became an apprentice. Skypaw padded out softly before catching sight of the two distressed cats and racing over to them. "A kit!" She meowed, thoroughly surprised. She hadn't realised Dustwater was carrying! You should have. Said a nasty voice inside her head but she brushed it away. "Dustwater, you need to bring that kit into the nursery, she looks a little chilled." The little brown and white apprentice told the queen, wondering why on earth she looked so sad. "Congratualtions though, Needlegaze and Dustwater. She's beautiful!"

At Skypaw's kind words and comment about how beautiful the kit was, Dustwater burst into more loud wails of pain and agony. How beautiful the other two would have been, as well! How beautiful! Needlegaze gave her some more comforting licks before standing up, pulling her up with him. Dustwater delicatley picked up the tiny kit in her jaws and limped to the nursurey, leaning against Needlegaze for support. Once inside the small, long abandoned fox den, Dustwater settled down in a mossy, warm nest and again, began raking her tongue furiously--though this time, more gently--through her kit's fur, trying to keep the tiny cat warm. Once she had decided that her only kit was warm enough, she decided to take a good look at it. It was a she-cat with brown and grey fur. She had striking blue eyes that reminded Neddlegaze of her dead mother's. She suddenly felt an immense amount of love swell up inside of her, like she had never felt before, and she pulled the tiny creature tighter to her body.

Still at loss as to why the queen was so upset but horrified that she might have made it worse, Skypaw trotted over to the nursery. The kit obviously hadn't been born in the nursery, but why? And where? Pushing these thoughts out of her head, Skypaw rooted about the medicine cat den for the honeycomb she knew was there. Gripping it lightly between her teeth, Skypaw was reminded momentarily of her own kithood, nestled into the nursery beside her mother and Adderpaw while their medicine cat brought them pieces of honeycomb to lick or the softest moss for their nest. She nosed her way into the nursery quietly and put it on the floor, letting Dustwater feed it to her kit. Skypaw knew medicine cats normally checked the kits over but this queen was extremely touchy at the best of times. "Do you mind if I look her over quickly? To make sure everything's fine?"

Sunpaw snapped awake as Dustwater's cries echoed through camp, hearing what had happened, she scrambled as up, balancing on her uningured side and smiling as she heard of Agamakit. The clan needed more members, and this kit would be greeted joyfully.

Dustwater was at a loss to Skypaw's words. "I...I...I can't let anyone toutch her..." she mewed softly, before wailing, "NO! THE OTHERS DIED! NO ONE CAN TOUCH HER! I'LL CLAW YOUR EYES OUT IF YOU HURT HER!" Dustwater was in hysterics, pulling Agamakit close to her. She felt Needlegaze's tongue rasping over her fur quickly, trying to calm her. She then gave a hoarse wail and curled up even tighter, keeping Agamakit close to her.
Needlegaze was trying desperatley to calm his mate. "Dustwater, she just wants to look at her! What if Agamakit is sick? She wont hurt her! She won't take her! She just wants to make sure the kit is oaky...please, Dustwater, calm down!" It wasn't working. He watched Dustwater, Agamakit close at her side, mumbling over and over again, "You won't take her. The others froze...the others died, you can't take her! NO cat will take her!"

Skypaw's eyes widened, first with shock and then with horror, the others had frozen? How terrible! "I'm so sorry, Dustwater. I - I had no idea." She glanced at Needlegaze, sympathetically. They would both be devestated. "Perhaps I ought to come back later and check her over when you've calmed down a bit. She looks fine from here." Skypaw suggested, already backing out. Dustwater was the one who wasn't fine. She needed herbs. Chamomile could help with mental shock - it calmed the mind down - and poppy seeds would give her a good rest, but would they affect her milk? There were no other queens that could take over if that happened - Skypaw couldn't take the chance. She wished with all her heart that her mentor was here. They would know what to do.

Sunpaw sighed as she heard those words. Cursing the bitter cold as she did, wishing the warmth of the sun was all but scarce and the light falling as heavily as the snow did here. She sat, leaning to her uninjured side and hoping Agamakit would escape the fate of her siblings.

Walking into the camp after a quick patrol, Ebonystar breathed in the warm scents of his camp, making sure everything was doing fine in his absence. Of course, the tom-cat immediately picked up the metallic smell of blood, so fresh and strong that he could almost taste it, mixing in with the sweet, calming smell of milk and honeycomb that reminded Ebonystar of his days as a kit. All these smells seemed to lead to the medicine cat den, making the leader enter the den, his large frame blocking the sunlight from the entrance for a few seconds.
Large amber-yellow eyes resting first on Needlegaze, then on Dustwater, and finally on Agamakit, Ebonystar understood in seconds that something must have gone wrong with the birthing. Smelling the fear-scent that was wafting off Dustwater in waves, the leader instead went to Needlegaze. "What happened here?" Tone all but rid of emotion, Ebonystar flicked his tail to the small kit, noting for a second her intense blue eyes, that almost gave the impression they saw and understood everything that was going on.
[[Wait, wouldn't her eyes be closed if she's just a newborn? o_O;;]]
