(Oh, this should be fun..I feel like Tigger- because so far, as I look at it; IIII'm- the only one! Grrr..) The sun was just beginning to turn into the western hills, in a dusky silence, while birds in the forest were settling down in their nest, squirrels wrapping themselves in their fluffy tails, preparing for a good sleep, and various burrowing animals burrowing further to escape the snowy earth.
In the twoleg's Garden, however, it was dead- just a blanket of new, mostly undisturbed snow. A track, however, did run through them- small, delicate pawprints, leading to a a she-cat who was pressing her head through the slats of the the garden fence and staring into the early-darkening light: a little confused. It was usually lighter out at this time, she was sure. And why was it so cold out here. Burrr....She'd been inside to eat moments ago, at it was so nice and toasty warm in there.
Now, Audrey didn't much like the snow- it made her paws wet and cold- and it wasn't nearly as pretty as when all the pretty flower-colors were out. In the morning, yes, it shawn- but so did dew on the grass. Still, her humans insisted she needed excercise- and she did need to work off her meal.
Nudging a board harder with her head, ti gave slightly, allowing her to squeeze both her shoulders through. The bell and tags around her neck jingled marrily, and she gave a satisfied mrowww at the progress she had made, as only yesterday she'd hardly been able to put her head through.
Now came the important part. She looked up the street, then down the street. Nothing, no cats in sight.
Well, maybe they were hiding. She just needed to keep looking, and looking harder.

♫ - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - >> Demi gave several high pitched yowls. They were incessant and annoying. "Let me ouuuuut, let me ouuuuut, LET ME OOUUUUTTTT!" Finally one of her twolegs came thumping across the nest muttering, and thrust the door open. They wouldn't stay mad for long! Purring, she rubbed against the female's leg, who sighed and relaxed, giving Demi a soft scratch between the ears. "There, I knew you'd come around," Demi mewed. Flicking her tail, she padded lightly out of the house and heard the door click softly shut behind her. Shivering as an icy wind picked up, she hoped her fur wasn't getting ruined. She had spent all morning cleaning it.
Cringing at the sight of her snow-covered lawn, she realized she'd have to get her paws wet, and sighed. She could ask to go back in...but she decided against it. While she was out here, she might as well make the best of it. Padding lightly across the yard, she glanced around. It had never occurred to her to actually rely on scent as a sense, so she was completely dependent on her wide, blue eyes to understand things. Of her eyes, she was very proud. They were the prettiest things she had ever seen.
Demi finally caught sight of her neighbor, a cat named Audrey. Demi had not spoken to Audrey much--the little brown-and-white she-cat spent most of her time indoors, and when she did look out the window, it was only to gaze in wonder at the falling snow. While doing this, she would occasionally spot another cat. Learn another name. And this one's name was Audrey--though, she knew also because Audrey was one of the few cats she had spoken to in her lifetime. Deciding to be 'bold' and 'tough', the five-moon-old she-cat scrambled atop the wooden fence, looking into the yard below. She didn't dare take a step into it. Giving her snow-laden paw a casual lick, she called out to the cat below.
"Hi Audrey," she mewed, wide blue eyes gleaming, "How can you stand it out here?! It's freezing!" Demi gave a little shiver then, curling her tail around her paws, inwardly extremely aware of her balance on the fence. One wrong move, and she'd topple into the yard below, and then all of her fur would be soaked and she'd have to clean it all over again!

Something has changed witin me...Something is not the same....I'm through with playing by the rules of someone elses game.....Now, Audrey did not have the easiest of scare tactics, but as she was not a cautious cat hearingwise, she had no idea that anything else was approaching from her side, or even her back end, which was still in her yard, while most of her front was out between the slats. The only thing she was worried about was what was in front of her, as she peered extra specially at the bottom of a bare thornbush.
So, when Demi spoke to her, it shocked the older she-cat so much, that she jumped- but it is not easy to jump when you have in a way trapped your body between some fenceposts- so rather, she bashed her small- and some would say already addled head against the boards above her. "EEEEEEP" She screeched, both out of pain and other emotions, as she hurriedly wriggled her way out of her entrapment, her belled collar tinkling furiously. Finally free, she gave her head a good shake, as well as a once-over with her paw- just to make sure everything was still in place, before looking up."Demey!" She squeaked in surprise- she hardly ever saw her little neighbour outside. Head still ringing much like the bell on her one collar when she moved, she sat down on the garden pathway, and looked up until it was paiunful to her head to do so much futher. " Ey cud sey teh sayme feur yoo! Ey wes just...just.."Now, how was she supposed to explain herself. For, yes, usually she did prefer sleeping indoor, on her nice fluffy lamb-bed, or her new three story scratching post - but not today; not for a while... Because she used to enjoy doing those things with Seymour- and nothing was right without him. She decided for the easiest root.. Not lie...just...leave a few crutial things out."Lookin' feur sumtin'."Too late for second guessing.....Too late to go back to sleep....It's time to trust my instincts, close my eyes....and leap.....

♫ - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - >> Demi was taken aback by Audrey's rebuttal. "Ey cud sey teh sayme feur yoo!" the she-cat mewed before going on to explain that she was looking for something. Realizing it would take away from her tough image if Demi didn't say something back, she mewed loudly,
"Oh no you couldn't! M'housefolk kicked me out, 'cuz I was rakin' my claws down the chair leg!" her eyes gleamed as she unsheathed and sheathed her claws. It was, of course, a lie. But Audrey wouldn't know. And as far as Demi was concerned, if Audrey believed it, it had happened.
Once this was out of her system, curiosity managed to prick at Demi's fur. Audrey had been looking for something? "What were you lookin' for?" she mewed, swishing her tail along the fence. And why had Audrey been poking her head out? Didn't she know it was dangerous?! Didn't she know that cats with muscles and big claws, and bears, and falcons would come get her if she left?
"An' I wouldn't go out there if I were you! There're cats with big jaws, an' bears as big as houses, an' falcons with huuuuge, crushin' wings!" She opened her mouth again to tell Audrey about the time she had fought a falcon, but thought better of it. It was a fantasy of hers, and Audrey wasn't likely to believe it. Snapping her jaw shut, Demi realized that this would probably do for the moment, and gazed at Audrey with round, blue eyes.

Bluestar
A shadow loomed against the garden fence, a strong, well-muscled figure. The dark blocking of the sun belonged to a tom, his dull, sandy-brown fur flowing with darker tabby stripes. The tom's paws and lower jaw were a creamy white, while his claws curved sharply, like grey steel. The rogue glanced ahead of him, white whiskers twitching along with the sharp white strands above his ears, there were two kittypets, at least, that's what he gathered from a few foxlengths away, hidden in everything but scent in the shadows. His leafy green eyes glittered, they were colder than the arctic itself, more terrifying than a death snarl, raking claws or a fatal battle, because when those eyes showed had, they had stark loathing in them, just to show that luck was not at your unfortunate eyes. Despite their anger, his gaze was currently mild, for, despite his hostility, he could be very much a charming young cat. The charming young cat, was infact, called Polaris, and the name suited his well, unknown was thefact, but it simply did.

Something has changed witin me...Something is not the same....I'm through with playing by the rules of someone elses game.....
The sore head Audrey had recieved was beginning to subside in it's pounding a little. Still, in hopes of trying to quench the throbbing, she took the time as Demi explained her reasons for being outside to gingerly rub what she felt to be a very tender the spot.
"Ohhhh..."She mewed scoldingly when Demi had finished." Yews Souldn't be dewin' that, Demey! Theey ceuld make yeh sleep outside fer that!" She remembered that one night, when she'd been around Demi's age...and they'd found her using the curtains for her own personal climbing robe. Sleeping under a bush was not nice.
However, Demi wasn't finished with her game of question your elders, it seemed. Then next thing out of the young cat's mouth was- what was she looking for? Well...she could very well tell her that. And then...the list of dangers di make Audrey rethink what she'd been doing though. She was right about Hawks...and Bears...and cats...But what could she do...what if Seymour was somewhere out there...all cold and alone and sleeping under a bush in the dark...cowering while A hawk swooped down on him...playing the chew toy for some smelly old bear? He'd always been brave for her; sleeping next to her when she had dreams of great swooping birds and shaggy, slinking dogs. She needed to be brave for him now.
Even if that did mean she risked getting her ears clawed off by horrible no-homed cats.
"Jest Sumthin'" She replied finally, enigmatically. " And certainly nuthin' bad weuld be cummin so close te heah, Demey. Net that weh sheuld be worrin' 'bout?"
Too late for second guessing.....Too late to go back to sleep....It's time to trust my instincts, close my eyes....and leap.....

Demi's fur prickled at Audrey's reply. She hadn't made up that whole thing about scratching furniture just to be scolded!
"Well," Demi shot back, suddenly self-conscious, "if you've trained your housefolk right, they won't make you sleep outside!" here, she gave Audrey a scathing glare, which only lasted a few seconds before she turned her blue gaze to the forest. Was something moving in the undergrowth? Ignoring her neighbor's rebuttal, Demi mewed softly.
"Hey....I think I saw somethin' movin' out there!" padding clumsily along the fence, she made her way to the end of it, peering into the lands that she dared not venture into. Her legs trembled with fear.
"Darn fence...can't get my balance!" was her excuse, not aware of the fear scent wafting off her pelt. She examined where she had seen the movement, and could make out some golden tabby stripes.
"Hey Audrey!" Demi hissed, tail lashing excitedly, "There's another cat out there!"

I don't cause commotions...
Demi seemed to be less than pleased with Audrey's cautionary words, but was that really a reason for a rebuttle of how her training of her twolegs was less than adiquate? She had her twolegs trained very well, actually! Well...Save for them taking away her kits- but she was sure it was just a misunderstanding- or maybe they indeed hadn't done anything with them at all, and it was Seymour who was with her three precious ones.
The more she pondered that, the more she liked that Senario. Yes, her twolegs hadn't done anything- It was all Seymour, and he was off playing with the kits. Well...he'd better be bringing them home soon- poor dears were probably getting hungry.
But Audrey was distracted for a minute, as Demi seemed to have found something she didn't, as she'd no longer been watch the gates. For a moment, Audrey hesitated in aknowledging it, or even worry about it. Was it her imagination, or was Demi's scent a little different than a moment ago?
But when Demi suggested it being a cat- that got her attention. She was looking for a cat, after all. Was it possible that it was her Seymour.
Well, maybe she could only see it from the top of the fence, like where Demi was. Perhaps that was the problem- but to get up there- she was certain, that although she was still considerably light and young, she couldn't get up on that thin beam that was her garden fence like she could as a kit. Was it worth trying though? Definately."Wha?" She replied, a little late, as she backed a little away from her fence, attempting to crouch in a leaping position, but her back legs seeming to refuse to cooperate. Still eventually she got nervy enough to leap, front paws landing just over the top, but the better bulk of her body slamming and scrabbling on the garden side- so much for a graceful cat.
A few good kicks got her up- and indeed, balancing somewhat on the (much thinner than she remembered) garden fence, and claws digging into the wood. She squinted to where Demi seemed to be looking, daring not to lean in for a better look less she upset her tettering body. She could just make out a tabby pelt like Demi had, if she squinted and turned her head slightly.
Disappointingly, it was definately not her mouse-brown Seymour.
Well, maybe this cat'd know him, or has seen him somewhere...Ohhhh, he must have!
I am one.

Bluestar
Polaris, hearing the two she-cats, stepped away from the undergrowth, sull sandy stripes rippling across his fur like tumbling waves. He prowled up to them, his lithe-yet-muscular form crouching, then springing onto the fence in a single leap as his muscles unbunched. He licked his paw when balance had been gained, and glanced at the two, almost wearily. "Who are you?" The words came out sharper than he would have liked, though that was typical Polaris, suspicious of everyone.

Demi's eyes widened as she saw the full tabby form of the mysterious tom emerge from the undergrowth. He looked strong, and dangerous. This must be one of the wild cats she had been warned about, and her fur puffed up as her wide, blue eyes stared at his form. She then gave a yowl of alarm as he hopped onto the fence. Never before had a cat--especially one from outside--actually come this close to neighborhood, let alone the fence, and she gave a yowl of alarm, leaping off the post without thinking and landing in the garden. And now, her paws were wet again. She made a disgusted face.
Glancing at Audrey, Demi suddenly remembered that she had an image to protect. "Wh-wh'm I?" she managed to utter, though her throat was dry, and she was trembling violently. Swallowing, she continued, "Wh-who 're y-you? An'...an' why are you here?" she puffed out her fur more in a pathetic attempt to stop her trembling and make herself look fiercer. "An' don't you d-dare come into my garden or I'll...I'll..." she glanced over at Audrey again, a brief spasm of courage shooting through her body at the sight of the pretty she-cat. "I'll claw your pelt off!" she unsheathed her claws then, hoping she looked threataning.

Polaris stared at Demi for a second, trying to compose his features into their usual distasteful form. Unfortunately, he failed, and out burst a rumbling, purring chuckle, it lasted a few moments, the throaty noise causing his eyes to narrow at the she-cats words, she had guts, he'd give her that. "Cats are friendly around here aren't they." He stated the words dryly, without a hint of a question in his tone."And I'm Polaris, since you so courteously asked." He added with the flick of a whisker.

♫ - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - >> Demi felt her fur prickle in embarassment. This cat was mocking her! He was laughing at her! This wouldn't do! Not at all! Yowling now, she added, "I'm SERIOUS. I'm...I'm lil' but I can put up a fight alright. I'll fight you, you...you...." she couldn't find words to express her anger, so instead, she glowered at him, getting mor nervous by the minuite. What if he decided to attack her? Who would help her? She tried a hiss on for size. Not too bad, she thought, and fluffed out her fur again, throwing another nervous glanced at Audrey. As far as she was concerned, if Audrey believed it, Demi's image was protected.

Polaris nodded rapidly, holding back another bout of laughter, mainly out of arrogance, the kitten thought she could fight him?
"Polaris," He finished for her, composing his features into one of regal expression, "And who are you, little one?" He added the last emphasized words to irritate the she-cat, keeping sight of the bigger kittypet nearby.
The tom flexed his shoulders under smooth, thick fur, then leaped down with the grace and speed of a fast trickling brook. He turned to face Demi and, despite his cool gaze, there was no hostility in his eyes, only the faintest hint of something close to impressed.

Screech. Slam. The she-cat jumped as the screen door to her housefolk home almost shut on her tail. She hissed slightly and glanced out at the snow-covered lawn. She walked along the hard concrete and glanced back at her home. She could right back inside but decided not to.
She gazed over at the side of her house, she had heard that one of the other cats, Skylar, ran off to become a loner. She shook her head, the bell on her collar jingling. She licked herself clean for a few moments. "Stupid snow." she hissed as she trudged through the thick snow. She leaped up onto the thick wire fence that bordered her area. Gazing across she saw Demi, a kitten she had heard about. She, at first, seemed to be talking to Audrey, but than a tom came. She licked her chest fur and jumped over her fence, leaping into the kittens yard.
"Stupid kit." she murmured under her breath and padded over to Demi's fence. She climbed up and looked over at Demi and the tom. "'Ello." she mewed as sweet as she could. She licked her paw and swiped it over her ear. "I'm Misty, in case ye did'n know." Her tail lashed behind her and her gaze traveled from the tom to Demi. "I heard about ya, you are Demi." She mewed softly. "But, who are you?" she mewed in a rougher tone, her eyes blazing with curiosity and anger. She flexed her paws, thinking the tom would attack her.
She had been attacked by a tom once, and ever since than thought that's all that tom's did.
